Trusts and Foundations Development Manager - Overview of role

The Development Manager will enhance and grow City Year UK’s fundraising income from trusts, foundations and statutory funders to support the organisation’s activity in London, Birmingham and Manchester and to expand into new potential cities.

Reporting to the Head of Development and working closely with the Development Director and Chief Executive, the focus will be to identify and cultivate relationships with funders, produce regular donor reports, and leverage key relationships and contacts within and outside of the City Year network to support City Year UK’s ambitious 2020 vision.

Trusts and Foundations Development Manager – Primary Responsibilities

●Support the development and implementation of a trusts, foundations and statutory fundraising strategy to grow income and meet fundraising targets

●Research, prepare and submit bids to major funders including charitable trusts and foundations, government, lottery and other organisations

●Manage and grow a portfolio of prospects from identification to solicitation to increase revenue for each of City Year UK’s sites as well as national partnerships

●Manage existing trusts, foundations and statutory funder relationships to ensure they are fully-engaged and the relationship is built on

●Monitor income and expenditure levels against agreed targets and provide regular internal reports on fundraising activities, performance and forecasts as appropriate

●Work with City Year Inc. to leverage and strengthen existing US donor relationships

●Insure database information is kept up to date for the prospect portfolio as part of wider prospect management system.

Trusts and Foundations Development Manager – You will have

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, persistent, good-humoured and will relish the opportunity of working in a young, dynamic organisation.

●A minimum of five years’ experience working in a fundraising environment

●Demonstrable experience of developing and securing funding from trusts, foundations and statutory funders

●Strong interpersonal, relationship building and presentation skills with an ability to engage and inspire a wide range of audiences

●Strong account and relationship management skills

●Excellent written skills in relation to the production of letters, applications, reports and publications, with accuracy in grammar and an eye for detail

●Financial skills including the ability to construct and use spreadsheets to monitor a budget

●Demonstrable experience of managing a diverse workload and working under pressure

●The ability to work as both a team member and independent leader

●A belief in and passion for City Year’s mission and ability to represent City Year and its values to a wide range of external audiences

●Willingness to be “hands on” in all aspects of the role, including offering a broader contribution to the Development and Communications team as required

●Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline

Trusts and Foundations Development Manager – You will receive

  • Up to 5% employer pension contributions
  • 25 days holiday per year plus one additional day per year after two years of employment, capped at a maximum of 28 days
