The opportunity:

The Haller Foundation is seeking a successor to the founder and current chief executive with the proven ability to bring organisational growth and development to this forward looking NGO at a time of great opportunity. Haller has combined technology and a proven model for environmental development, which provides subsistence communities with a pathway out of poverty. It is looking for someone with established leadership credentials to lead this exciting next stage of its development.

Context: The Haller Foundation was established in 2004 to promote a model for economic development that is sustainable and environmentally sound.  With annual revenue of £600,000 per annum we are seeking a talented individual who will continue to build the organisation, under the guidance of the current chief executive and founder who’s aim is to ensure Haller’s future sustainability. The successful candidate would work alongside the current CEO during a six-month hand over process and become CEO after mutually agreed targets have been met.

 Personal specification

The role is suited for a candidate with an entrepreneurial flair, and at least three years in a leadership role They should have a sophisticated understanding of international development issues and the opportunity within that, for the role of technology  to change development orthodoxy. Experience in fund raising or running a client interfacing business is preferred. This would be an ideal role for someone looking to take the next step in their career with a broad based remit of responsibility.

Leadership: Looking to build on their career, they would have to demonstrate a minimum of three years  leadership experience and capacity building.They need the ability to communicate effectively, by influencing, persuading and building confidence with stakeholders, partners and funders. They must have the confidence to secure funding including the direct ask where appropriate.

Previous management experience:

  • Expertise in relationship or donor management or private/public sector partnerships and a proven ability to build strong productive relationships with major donors, corporates, foundations and institutional donors.
  • Understanding of a wide range of income generation sources for not for profit organisations including social enterprise.
  • Expertise in managing organisational and team development,
  • Project management and knowledge of M and E and impact assessment.
  • Knowledge of budgeting & financial management.
  • Presenting and proposal writing skills.

 

Responsibilities

 Reporting the Board of Trustees, the Chief Executive will be responsible for the running of the Foundation and the Social Enterprise ‘ The Haller Farmers App’

  • To lead the fund raising team to ensure The Haller Foundation can continue to improve the lives of smallholder farmers across Africa and deliver sustainable organisational growth.
  • Lead the future development of the Haller Farmers App – an social enterprise which will generate dividends from a platform of providers and partners for grassroots farmers with the aim of supporting  The  Foundation’s work in improving livelihoods.  Visit the app 
  • Provide sound financial stewardship, which meets the expectation of the beneficiaries, partners, the board and its funders.
  • Work with the board to explore new partnerships and deliver joint programmes to maximise current strategic initiatives.
  • Manage the Haller organisation and development of employees in UK and Kenya to improve organisational capacity, programme design and implementation.
  • Lead external representation including building networks and promoting Haller’s approach in leadership and development forums.
  • Oversee the alignment of communications, and marketing across a multiple of platforms.
  • Ensure best governance including managing the statutory and financial obligations of the charity.
