Role and Responsibilities

We’re seeking a dynamic marketer and fundraiser to manage our one-to-many relationships across a range of channels, including direct mail. The Development Manager role carries wide-ranging responsibilities. You will be an integral part of this growing, award-winning Christian charity and will make a life-saving difference to the world’s most vulnerable people.

Purpose

To enable Medair’s life-saving work by delivering a range of fundraising activities, especially direct and digital marketing with new and existing donors, to achieve Medair UK’s fundraising objectives.

About you

You’ll have a proven track record in direct and digital marketing – acquiring and retaining donors. You’ll be a compelling written communicator and have well-developed project management skills. You’ll be creative and have an understanding of the humanitarian sector, as well as what motivates people’s generosity and be able to use these to engage supporters.

Key Activity Areas

Direct / Digital Marketing & Fundraising

  • Plan, implement, manage and review Medair UK’s integrated programme to strengthen fundraising relationships with existing donors, ensuring their support and satisfaction is maximised:
  • Create and execute direct mail fundraising campaigns – from requesting field content, to segmenting data and developing print briefs.
  • Act as day to day contact with external suppliers, ensuring high quality, accurate delivery of campaigns.
  • Proactively develop and implement segmentation and testing to ensure maximum learning and income.
  • Manage all digital communication with donors including e-appeals and UK specific web content.

Supporter Engagement

  • Write and deliver engaging quarterly prayer reports to Medair UK’s prayer network.
  • Encourage engagement and support of Medair UK amongst its alumni network.

Social Media

  • Write and manage Medair UK’s output across social media channels, and grow Medair UK’s social media presence.

Media

  • Proactively work with local, national and Christian broadcast and print media to improve awareness of Medair in the UK.

Tasks common to all staff

  • Act as an ambassador for Medair UK at all times when liaising externally and internally.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of the Medair brand across all relevant activities.
  • Record information as necessary and comply at all times with requirements for handling personal / sensitive data.

Qualifications

  • Relevant degree or equivalent, or 3 – 5 years’ experience in a marketing or fundraising role within the charity sector preferably in an international relief / development organisation
  • Professional marketing and / or fundraising qualification and / or project management qualification desirable

Languages

  • Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written)

Experience / Competencies – ESSENTIAL:

  • Inspired by and in full agreement with Medair’s Christian values and ethos
  • A proven track record in generating income across a range of fundraising channels
  • Substantial experience of planning, implementing and evaluating direct/digital marketing campaigns across a range of media channels targeting UK audiences
  • Work with suppliers, negotiating costs and managing relationships to ensure positive outcomes
  • Ability to develop campaign briefs, write copy and evaluate artwork, providing feedback
  • Understanding and experience using fundraising database(s) to enhance the effectiveness of fundraising and marketing activities
  • Understanding of humanitarian issues
  • The ability to build and maintain effective and collaborative relationships internally and externally
  • Willing to contribute to the spiritual life of the team including prayer meetings

Experience / Competencies – DESIRABLE:

  • Experience in / links with potentially supportive individuals / organisations
  • Experience in communications / working with media channels to gain visibility
  • Experience in dealing with media
  • Direct experience in relief / development work
  • Understanding of graphic design / multimedia, ThankQ CRM System

Working Conditions

  • This is a position based in Clapham, SW London with possible UK and international travel.
  • Willingness to be flexible in terms of hours worked at occasional, but inevitable moments of crisis and opportunity particularly evening and weekends.
