Overview of Speakers Trust

Our vision is for every young person to be able to speak confidently and be heard. Our mission is to provide opportunities through training, resources and competitions for every young person to speak confidently, effectively and with purpose.

We are a registered charity and have trained over 300,000 people and worked with over 1,000 schools, colleges and charities throughout the UK.

Speakers Trust is the UK's leading public speaking training charity, specialising in the education, not-for-profit and community sectors. We create a pathway for young people, from primary school through 3rd level, to enhance their speaking and communication skills.  These skills will unlock the individual’s potential with benefits spreading to the home, school, the economy and society.

Job Purpose

As the post-holder you will seek out new opportunities for public speaking programmes by finding sponsorship partners and/or grants and donations to fund them.  In turn, this will create new revenue streams for the charity which can be re-invested in more training.  You will head up the new programme and lead on strategic direction, innovation, quality control, implementation and evaluation of all new programme activity. You will have an excellent track record in delivering successful income generation.

Working with our CEO and with the Director of Programmes responsible for Jack Petchey’s “Speak Out” Challenge! and the NCS Summer Challenge, you will have in-depth knowledge of the fundraising environment and current regulatory system. You will also work with experienced programme staff and 26 freelance public speaking trainers to co-ordinate the delivery of your new programmes ensuring overall efficiency, monitoring and quality control. You will have experience of event management and be a competent public speaker yourself.

The key responsibility areas currently required are set out below.  They are not a comprehensive list, nor is the post-holder likely to be doing all of them at the same time.  The objectives for the role will be reviewed regularly as part of the organisation’s annual review process and in light of the charity’s changing needs. Any major changes to the key responsibility areas will be discussed with the post-holder.
