…blend tried and tested techniques with digital engagement?

…help secure our long-term future by ensuring our operating model is as efficient and effective as possible?

Up for the challenge? Then the Director of Fundraising role at Asthma UK could be for you!

Why Asthma UK?

It’s ‘only’ asthma right? Wrong.

There are 5.4 million people with asthma in the UK, which means asthma affects one in every 11 people and one in five households. With the right medicines and good basic care, most people can manage their symptoms and live well with asthma. But every 10 seconds someone in the UK has a potentially life-threatening asthma attack and every day the lives of three families are devastated by the death of a loved one; tragically two thirds of these deaths are preventable.

Asthma UK’s mission is to stop asthma attacks and cure asthma – and we want to end the complacency that surrounds asthma by designing and delivering ground-breaking products and services. We have an international reputation in asthma research and are increasingly sought-after to broker innovative partnerships across sectors and disciplines. We could not deliver this without our enthusiastic team of around 80 talented employees and our strong commitment to delivering a culture that instils high levels of employee motivation and performance.

Our digital future

In the last two years, an ambitious change programme at Asthma UK has significantly boosted understanding of the seriousness of asthma, brand awareness of the charity and more than doubled the number of people we are supporting to manage their asthma better through our revamped website.

We’re very focused on the potential of digital to deliver our mission. Each month over 125,000 people seek online advice from us – and they are incredibly diverse; not just in their experiences of asthma, but also their demographic profile. Our income sits at around £8m each year delivered through a broad portfolio of income streams; we are agile and flexible in how we raise and use this income to best effect.

With the full support of our passionate and prominent board, we are committed to building on our ambitious plan and model for growth. It will continue to be centred around the needs of people with asthma – not least their growing preference to manage their asthma, donate and communicate with us via digital channels and products.

What the role involves

As our Director of Fundraising, you’ll be essential to us driving these plans forward, helping evolve and deliver our fundraising strategy in line with the changing external environment and insights from people with asthma.

You will be:

  • an inspirational leader dedicated to the continuous building of a high-potential and high-performing team
  • fully committed to integrated cross-team working, including outside fundraising
  • creative and tenacious in driving fundraising growth, including leading the development of new propositions and products across a broad range of income streams
  • experienced at top-level fundraising analytics and operations
  • energised by the prospect of working in a fast-paced, globally-ambitious, digitally-focused charity making a significant difference to the lives of people with asthma.
  • accountable to the Chief Executive and a member of Senior Leadership team
