About us

Lessons for Life believes that education changes everything. Every child, no matter where they live, has the right to an education that radically transforms their chances in life.

We support children from some of the toughest places in Africa to get a quality education. Schools don’t exist in isolation; to support kids effectively, we work with their families and communities too. We also look at how innovation can drive our approach. It’s a whole-child approach that increases the impact of everything we do.

Lessons for Life is in a unique and enviable position, thanks to our founding partner and supporter Liberty Global ($18billion revenue), which operates brands including Virgin Media and Cable & Wireless.

Liberty Global provides us with unique access to some of the world’s biggest media brands and we are based from their new Hammersmith offices.

Our deep relationship with Liberty Global continues, creating opportunities, establishing new partnerships and increasing our programmatic impact.

Since 2008, we have reached more than 50,000 children and community members. In 2016, our income was c £2.9 million. We are a grant giver rather than implementer which means we:

- have a light footprint,

- are a lean organisation,

- are flexible and innovative, and;

- have a focused, business-like approach.
