Build Africa is an award-winning development organisation. We believe in the power of education to help end poverty, and work to ensure that children in Africa have the best opportunity to learn. We are unique in our approach - supporting the ability of parents to send their children to school, while helping communities build and sustain quality education services. Build Africa currently operates in Kenya and Uganda.

As part of our ambitious growth plans to help more people than ever, we are looking for a dedicated and inspiring Trusts and Foundations Officer to help the Strategy and Impact Team to deliver against income targets.

The successful candidate will increase the average size and longevity of grants received by securing repeat and multi-year funding from a portfolio of existing trusts and foundations, reactivating lapsed donors and securing donations from new prospects.

As the Trusts and Foundations Officer you will do this by undertaking trend analysis regarding current and potential donors, keeping up to date on UK donor and international development trends, undertaking appropriate research, meeting and pitching to prospective trusts and foundations and cultivating those relationships and preparing compelling evidence-based applications.

You will bring with you a track record of growing income from trusts and foundations, if possible with experience of securing multi-year six-figure grants from technical foundations. You will have full understanding of the importance of trusts and foundations to the income stream and be familiar with the various steps in trusts’ and foundations’ funding cycles. You will have excellent insight into partnership needs and be seasoned at representing an institution. In addition, you will be an adept communicator, equally comfortable writing excellent proposals, drafting e-mails, speaking by Skype, or networking, influencing and negotiating.

If you are up to the challenge of pitching confidently, producing inspiring and compelling applications, are driven by striving for targets, enjoy opening doors and are ready to work in a supportive, innovative and creative team, then we are looking forward to hearing from you.

To apply: Please submit an application letter of no more than one page highlighting what specific successes you have had that align with the key targets and responsibilities. Furthermore, please provide a copy of your current CV as well as an anonymised version of a trust or foundation application you have written and/or any other example of persuasive writing of your own.

Send the above materials to the e-mail address provided by Wednesday 24 May 17:00 GMT+1. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis and will conclude by 11 May 2017. Candidates invited for interview must be prepared to take a written test before their interview and an oral test during their interview.
