Fundraising and Communications Officer

Permanent Position: 35 hours a week

Are you passionate about making a difference to young people’s lives? Ocean Youth Trust Scotland is an award winning youth work charity who deliver innovative programmes for young people on our sail training vessels.  We take over 500 young people a year from diverse backgrounds and communities, providing the opportunity for self-development and personal discovery through Adventure under Sail.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Fundraising team and contribute to its growing success.  We seek an exceptional individual to support and develop our charity’s fundraising, communications & PR activity.  Experience of organising income generating events would also be an asset.  We are looking for a team player with the determination to meet our key aims of increasing revenue from a variety of income streams and raising the charity’s profile.

The successful candidate will focus on developing our press and social media coverage which will effectively communicate the key messages and work of the charity. The ability to write engaging press releases and be a confident communicator across a mix of channels is absolutely essential for this new role. At the same time, you will be expected to make a strong contribution to securing income from a variety of revenue streams.  These include: trust and foundations, statutory, individual and corporate donors, and events.

Location: Greenock (but some home-working possible)

Salary: £23,000 to £26,000 (DOE)

Key skills: 

  • At least two years’ experience in fundraising

  • Experience of writing proposals and/or working on grant applications

  • The ability to research and develop new revenue streams

  • The ability to write compelling press releases and grow new audiences through social media channels

  • Excellent project planning skills.

  • Good IT skills. Database/CRM experience an advantage although training will be provided if necessary.

  • Experience of working with corporate clients in building new relationships, as well as maintaining current supporters.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
