Samaritans is a unique charity that provides support to people who are struggling to cope. Last year our volunteers responded to a call for help every six seconds, and with more than 20,000 volunteers and around 150 staff, our volunteers have been providing emotional support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for over 60 years.

We are looking for an Assistant Director of Donor Engagement to join the ‘Income and Finance’ department; this is an exciting new role within a thriving, ambitious, challenging and supportive environment.

Our Fundraising Strategy highlights the critical need to manage relationships with donors across Samaritans and the Assistant Director of Donor Engagement will have responsibility for raising and growing voluntary income from individuals, inspire non-financial supporters to become donors and integrate the aims and objectives of fundraising into the organisation’s strategic plan and operational activities.

The successful candidate will lead on the development and management of donor journeys and explore the use of donor data, using digital as a means of transforming the way we attract, support and retain donors whilst building on the history of sustained income growth within fundraising.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Income and Finance you will be expected to have the credibility, gravitas and ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Applications are welcome from candidates with a strong background of developing and managing client, donor or customer journeys, and this experience may have been gained within charities or from other commercial sectors.
