We’re looking for a highly motivated individual with experience of obtaining high value gifts from trusts/Big Lottery Fund or similar bodies to join us as a Senior Grants and Philanthropy Executive and play their part in the success of our award-winning fundraising team.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.

Fundraising is at the heart of Shelter’s success. Indeed, in 2016/17 our fundraising division generated gross income of over £30m and has plans to grow this to £45m by 2019/20. The Philanthropy team plays a vital part by raising funds from high net worth individuals, legacy pledges, trusts and the Big Lottery Fund and in the last year raised close to £9m. We have achieved year on year growth for the past four years and have ambitious plans to continue that growth. In short, it's a truly exciting time to join this award-winning team.

About the role

As Senior Grants and Philanthropy Executive you will be managing a portfolio of existing multi-year grants and working closely with Shelter delivery teams and funders to make sure all grant requirements are met and pledges fulfilled. Using a relationship driven approach to maximise the value and duration of support and retain and develop current Trust supporters, you will have a particular focus on those with the potential to donate £10k+ per year. Researching new prospects and securing their support, and planning, writing and coordinating new applications to the Big Lottery Fund and producing/updating information on new and existing prospects will also be key elements of this exciting, varied role.

About you

Commercially aware, proactive and results-driven, you will actively seek to challenge the status quo and introduce new ideas, methods and processes. You’ll have proven experience of how to obtain high value gifts from trusts/Lottery or similar, that included understanding needs and developing highly personalised relationships using a range of techniques e.g. face-to-face, over the phone and written approaches. Excellent planning and team-working skills, a flair for writing proposals and the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels is also essential as is the ability to use Microsoft Office applications and Raiser’s Edge database or similar.

Benefits include 30 days annual leave, the possibility of flexible working and significant opportunities for learning and development.

Shelter is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of clients, in particular children, young people and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff, workers and volunteers to share this commitment.

At Shelter, we welcome and encourage applications from everyone regardless of age, disability, gender, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation. We are facing diverse problems, so need diverse people to tackle them.

Shelter does not accept unsolicited CVs from external recruitment agencies nor accept the fees associated with them.
