If you are experienced, capable and looking for a leadership role with an established and forward looking charity, the Lake District Calvert Trust is seeking a dynamic Fundraising Manager.

The Trust is a specialist residential centre for people with disabilities based in the heart of the Lake Disitrict. We enable children and adults with all types of needs to take part in challenging activities – adventurous experiences which have life-changing outcomes.  The charity supports around 4,000 visitors each year staying at our 60 bed residential centre and operates seven days a week. Annual fundraising income is in excess of £400,000 and is used by the charity to develop it services and keep costs as low as possible for our beneficiaries.

Primary Objectives

The Fundraising Manager is expected to provide dynamic and innovative leadership of the Fundraising Team in order to secure challenging annual fundraising targets.  The Trust has a diverse range of income streams and you will be expected to work with the Centre Director to develop the overall fundraising strategy; agree annual income targets; lead on community and corporate engagement; and manage all other areas of fundraising to ensure targets are achieved.  The post holder is an essential member of the Senior Management Team and will be expected to be involved in all aspects of the organisation as well as to work with the Trustees to inform strategic decision making.

Responsibilities

The post requires commitment to the Centre and its work, with a variety of duties including, but not limited to:

  • Ensuring achievement of the organisation’s annual fundraising targets
  • Producing annual plans for all areas of fundraising income
  • Managing and developing the staff and volunteers under your control
  • Developing and leading on community fundraising
  • Developing and leading on corporate fundraising
  • Develop and implementing a legacy fundraising strategy
  • Overseeing and supporting fundraising from Grant Making Trusts (GMT’s) and to work with fundraising consultants to ensure achievement of income targets
  • Overseeing and supporting fundraising from events
  • Producing timely management information covering all areas of responsibility
  • Acting as the Duty Manager in rotation with other members of the Senior Management Team including providing overnight, weekend and on-call cover
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties as requested by the Centre Director

Person Specification

The post holder will require a flexible and proactive approach and will be expected to:

  • Have existing experience and a proven track record of successfully raising funds
  • Demonstrate a high degree of initiative and an ability to identify opportunities for generating fundraising income
  • Be able to communicate at all levels and to be comfortable representing the Trust in public settings including presenting
  • Have excellent verbal and written English skills and be able to represent the Trust in a thoroughly professional manner at all times
  • Work without constant supervision and to be self-motivated
  • Have excellent computer literacy, especially Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint, and a proven ability to work with databases
  • Be able to work as part of a team with an ability to take ownership of responsibilities and a wider commitment to support the needs of the Centre as a whole
  • An understanding and empathy for working with people with disabilities is essential. Disability Awareness Training will be provided upon commencing the post.
  • A satisfactory DBS check and a full driving license are required for this role.

Conditions of Service

This role requires considerable flexibility, enthusiasm and dedication.  The responsibilities of this job may well involve some irregular hours as well as both weekend and evening work.  Commitment and an appropriate work ethos are essential for the continued smooth operation of the Charity. 

Hours:  The hours for this role are 40 hours per week.  Flexible hours within the 40 hour per week by agreement.  This includes some weekend work and evening sessions.

Pension:  The Trust operates an occupational pension scheme with defined contributions, the National Employment Savings Trust (NEST) and for eligible and non-eligible jobholders enrolled in the scheme both the employer and the employee will make a contribution. Eligible jobholders, as defined by the legislation, will be automatically enrolled into NEST, unless you decide to opt-out.

Holidays:  28 days per annum, including Bank Holidays. 5 additional days are allowed for onerous duties.  Up to 10 days are required to be taken over the Christmas closedown period.
