For over 900 years Chichester Cathedral has welcomed visitors through its doors - worshippers, seekers, tourists, people of all faiths and none.  The Cathedral plays an important role for the city, the region and the diocese of East and West Sussex: alongside the primary purpose of worship and prayer, we foster learning, volunteering, music making, public debate and social action.  Living and vibrant, drawing in people to learn, explore, engage and be inspired, our Cathedral is also a haven of peaceful prayer and reflection.  In his 2016 book 'England's Cathedrals', Simon Jenkins describes Chichester as 'a friendly, popular Cathedral'.  Open every day our Cathedral welcomes 350,000 worshippers and visitors each year and is an important contributor in the local and regional economy.

Chichester Cathedral maintains a free entry policy, and this is only possible through the essential work of the Chichester Cathedral Restoration & Development Trust.

As an experienced fundraising professional, with a proven record, you will work closely with the Head of Fundraising to develop and increase the Cathedral's fundraising activity, and resultant income, across a variety of disciplines.  Building on that which has proved successful over the years, we also need to develop and increase efforts in other areas, to raise essential funds for the Cathedral's restoration and development needs.  To date, the predominant funding priorities have been focussed on restoration and whilst this remains a high priority, of increasing urgency is the need for funds to maintain and develop the valuable work undertaken by the Cathedral.  At a time when we are faced with a major £5.8 million roof project, we also need to develop our revenue fundraising activity in addition to the significant capital project funding needs.

Experience of fundraising in the heritage and culture sector would be beneficial and experience of a wide variety of different fund raising techniques is essential.  Funds are typically raised through grant giving bodies, major donors and legacies, and so experience in raising revenue funding from these sources would be advantageous.  Other key requirements of this role are: Excellent communication and organisational skills, drive, the ability to get on with others at all levels, common sense, resourcefulness and a readiness to work on a flexible basis to meet the requirements of the post.
