Motivation has bold plans for the future and has just launched a new three year strategic plan, to re-think how we can improve the inclusion of disabled people in developing countries so they have the opportunity to fully participate in their communities. Advancing wheelchair design and provision, centred on the needs of disabled people, is at the very heart of this new strategy. However, to keep building on this work and delivering programmes that transform lives we need to secure new funding and strategic partnerships to help resource it.

Who we're looking for:

Motivation would like to appoint an experienced senior fundraiser to develop strategic partnerships with major donors and corporates, which delivers a pipeline of long term funding to help resource Motivation’s current and future activities.

Working as an integral member of the Fundraising & Communication’s team, the successful candidate will play a lead role in securing significant and sustainable income for our core work, and new product development work, as well as for our Wheelchair Provision, Mobility, Peer Education, Livelihoods and Parent Carer Training programmes in East Africa and South Asia.

Main Responsibilities:

The post holder will be expected to lead on developing and implementing a robust three year fundraising strategy for securing large gifts from individuals and organisations, in order to increase the number of funders, strategic partnerships and net income for 2018 and beyond. They will work closely with the Head of Fundraising & Communications, as well as Motivation’s Founder Director and CEO to implement the strategy and will be expected to network, meet with prospective donors and submit funding proposals in order to fulfil fundraising targets. The post-holder will:

Oversee the team’s major donor fundraising and related income targets

  • Manage relationships with current major donors, making recommendations on where relationships could be scaled up or developed further with support from relevant colleagues;
  • Identify and develop necessary systems and processes to support the growth of high value income across the charity;
  • Undertake prospect research to identify new leads and implement effective solicitation and stewardship plans;
  • Develop and recommend a new Major Donor product to support fundraising activity for 2018 and beyond;
  • Build new relationships by being active within relevant social and business networks;
  • Harness the story of Motivation’s Founder Director where appropriate and work with him to solicit support from new prospects;
  • Create compelling and tailored cases-for-support and related communications for maximising involvement and multi-year gifts from major donors;
  • Develop, establish and maintain a stewardship programme that delivers a compelling donor journey and results in high value giving and lasting donor relationships; this includes delivering timely communications, first class reporting and extra initiatives including events to ensure donor satisfaction

Support the team’s corporate income development and achievement of targets

  • Work with the Head of Fundraising & Communications, to roll out a corporate fundraising strategy to develop new long term corporate partnerships;
  • Build and develop sponsorship, corporate partnership, employee engagement and other relevant corporate packages to win new support;
  • Maximise the cross-over between our existing major donors and prospect list who are also active within the business world and have corporate connections;
  • Undertake research on potential new donors and analyse Motivation’s programmes and products with a view to making relevant approaches for corporate support;
  • Create and deliver compelling presentations and pitches for potential partnerships;
  • Deliver a programme of applications for corporate foundations in support of our product development and programme activities;
  • Deliver events suitable for engaging with both major donors and corporate supporters.

Contribute to the team’s wider partnership development

  • Investigate and develop new sources of funding from organisations across the UK, Europe and internationally;
  • Provide support to the development of funding bids to likes of Big Lottery Fund, Comic Relief and other major funders, when necessary.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in a similar role where they are able to demonstrate experience of cultivating new donors and partnerships to increase income from high value relationships. You will be results-orientated and have a track record of securing at the five and six-figure level.

To be successful in this role, you will excel at developing and managing major relationships and building on their support. You will be adaptable and well organised. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, so that you can engage with, motivate and influence target audiences and be able to communicate complex issues in an accessible and engaging manner, comfortable interacting with donors at all levels. You will also have the commitment and drive to deliver against deadlines, a positive, collaborative working approach and a genuine passion for our work.

You will enjoy working as part of a small team, actively contributing towards achieving team goals and applying your initiative, technical skills and knowledge to drive team and individual performance. At the same time you should be able to work independently taking ownership for and managing agreed areas of responsibility. You will also need to be innovative, resilient and resourceful and have a good technical and emotional understanding of what motivates donors to give. Based in our Bedminster office, you will work closely with colleagues across the organisation both in the UK and overseas to ensure an integrated approach to generating income across all our work.
