About Us 

The National Literacy Trust is a national charity dedicated to raising literacy levels in the UK. One person in seven in the UK has poor literacy skills that impact on every area of their life. A child without good reading, writing and communication skills can’t succeed at school, and as an adult they could be locked out of the job market. Poverty doubles the likelihood of literacy failure by the age of five. 

We run projects in the poorest communities, campaign to make literacy a priority for politicians and parents, and support schools. Our mission is to give young people the literacy skills they need to get a job and lead a successful life. 

Now, we’re looking for a Project Manager to join us on a 12 month fixed-term contract and support the delivery of projects that support young people's understanding and enjoyment of writing.

In this fast-paced and exciting role, you’ll have the opportunity to oversee projects that will make a positive difference to young people and encourage their passion for the written word. 

Your Role 

As the Project Manager, you’ll support the success of our Young Writers programme, which finds creative ways to engage disadvantaged young people in writing. 

Joining the Schools Programme Team, you will work with cultural and heritage venues to deliver writing projects, including poetry and other forms of writing. 

Specifically, you will: 

- Oversee project logistics, safeguarding, risk management, QA and event management 
- Identify and recruit schools to take part in projects 
- Deliver high-quality training sessions and workshops 
- Present the work of the programme to a range of audiences, including teachers and businesses 
- Help to manage and track project spend 
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the programme, including designing and delivering content 

About You 

To join us as a Project Manager, you’ll need experience of the following: 

- Project management 
- Working with young people 
- Working with cultural sector organisations 
- Creative writing practice and/or literacy, within schools 

Other organisations may call this role Project Manager, Education Project Manager, Education Programme Manager, or Project Delivery Manager.
