Practice-based Student Learning Project Manger-Prosthetics & Orthotics

Salary:£39,992 - £47,722              Ref:1736470

Full Time,Fixed Term (12 Months)

The School of Health Sciences at the University of Salford is the largest provider of professional training for the Allied Health Professions in the UK. The post-holder will be based in the Directorate of Prosthetics & Orthotics and Podiatry and will contribute to the academic activity of the School and the Directorate by undertaking project work to support practice-based student learning experiences for Prosthetic & Orthotic (P&O) students.

The post-holder's principle role will be to deliver project work which addresses a need to maintain and increase the availability and consistency of student placements for the P&O programme, in parallel with an apprenticeship model of programme delivery. A key part of the project will involve investigation of placement and apprenticeship models, and evaluation and development of proposals for the preferred model for P&O education in the UK. The post-holder will need to work with key stakeholders across the UK and produce recommendations for the UK P&O education sector.

This 12 month fixed term post is funded by the Office for Students (OfS) within a programme of activities to support small, specialist health disciplines as part of the package of support for the reforms to the funding of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health disciplines which took effect from September 2017. The programme of activities - The Strategic Interventions in Health Education Disciplines (SIHED) - aims to support four disciplines in the first instance: orthoptics, therapeutic radiography, podiatry and P&O. The recent reform to funding of the P&O course has removed the cap on the number of students recruited to the P&O programme. In order to increase numbers, in response to workforce shortages, the current placement model requires review, with a view to propose an alternative model of provision. The opportunity to provide an alternative route to professional registration via a Degree Apprenticeship is moving forward, thus any change in the placement model must be implemented with consideration of the model for apprenticeship training.

The post-holder will report to the Director of Prosthetics & Orthotics and Podiatry.

The post-holder will report project progress to the Director of P&O and Podiatry, the Chair of BAPO and the Strategic Interventions Programme Manager (OfS funded position). The post-holder will be responsive to the wider SIHED programme and report the SIHED programme board via the programme manager.

The post-holder will be supported by University of Salford staff involved in the provision of placements and apprenticeships, as well as a wider network of people external to the organisation.

A secondment arrangement from an applicant's current position will be considered.

The interview date for this vacancy has been scheduled for: 25th July 2018.
