About us

For 25 years, Global Witness has been protecting human rights and the environment by fearlessly confronting corruption and the systems that enable it.

Many of the world’s worst environmental and human rights abuses are driven by the exploitation of natural resources and corruption in the global political and economic system. Global Witness is campaigning to end this. We carry out hard-hitting investigations, expose these abuses, and campaign for change.  We are independent, not-for-profit, and work with partners around the world in our fight for justice.

Over the years we have helped cut funding to the Khmer Rouge, brought blood diamonds and conflict minerals to the world’s attention, exposed how the corruption in the oil industry wrecks lives and habitats in some of the world’s poorest countries and gone undercover to show the how the global financial system makes such crimes possible.

We’re recruiting for a Director of Development to lead our fundraising team of 10 to continue to grow the organisation’s income and impact.

About the role

Working in partnership with and reporting to our CEO, you will be responsible for designing and planning, leading and sustaining all of Global Witness’ fundraising with a 2019 budget of $15 million with projected growth in the years to come.

You will maintain oversight over all our fundraising activities including major giving, institutional giving (governments, trusts and foundations) and fundraising events.

You will develop and sustain relationships with our current and prospective funders with a special focus on major donor cultivation and new revenue development.  You will proactively seek opportunities to increase our profile and income in fundraising and advocacy environments.

You will be a member of our Management Team, helping chart the future of our organisation and ensuring we are a great place to work.

About you

You are a highly credible Fundraising Director with extensive and demonstrable experience and success (5 years minimum) of working at this level.  Your robust network and expertise will support Global Witness in identifying, securing and growing its income.

You thrive in a fast-paced environment that is full of committed, dedicated and passionate people.  You are dedicated, entrepreneurial, detail oriented, agile and well organised.

Intellectually curious you will seek to understand the complexity and impact of our investigations, advocacy and campaigning.

An exceptional manager of people and resources, you come with an established record of leadership.  You have the ability to identify and develop talent; trusting and enabling your team to do amazing work.  As a plus, you may bring experience of managing global teams.

You share our vision for a better world - where corruption is challenged and accountability prevails, all can thrive within the planet’s boundaries, and governments act in the public interest.
