College Alumni Relations Partner (Maternity Cover)

This post is responsible for leading a team of alumni professionals to develop, plan and implement an Alumni Relations strategy and programme of activity within the College of Social Science that complement the University’s Volunteering and Alumni Relations strategies, and adds significant value to College priorities.

In order to achieve this, the post holder will have a thorough understanding of the College’s areas of research and teaching excellence and a passionate commitment to its priorities. You will be enthused and excited about our academic activities and strategic priorities and will identify opportunities to share this enthusiasm with our alumni community. You will lead a team to identify creative opportunities for individual alumni to support these priorities and proactively ask them to give their time, skills and expertise to add value and impact. The post holder will also be responsible for developing a range of alumni volunteering opportunities, which support the University’s and College key strategies in areas including employability, student experience, curriculum development, internationalisation and student recruitment.

You will develop strong relationships within your peer group (Marketing, Business Engagement, Careers Network etc.), with College Senior Management including Heads of School / Departments, and with a wide range of academic and professional staff. You will champion the value of alumni relations in the College using your full-range of excellent communication and influencing skills, and you will encourage colleagues to give their time to support your strategy. To be successful in role and to maximise the reach of alumni relations, your role will focus on inspiring and enabling others to deliver objectives which are mutually beneficial.

You will be a motivated self-starter with a proven track record of delivering a strategy through people. You will be comfortable communicating, influencing and directing senior individuals, as well as managing and motivating a team of direct reports, deploying sophisticated persuasion techniques when required to convince individuals to become involved or to give time to your activity.

The post holder will work with the Head of Volunteering in the Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO) to ensure that all activities complement the University’s central DARO objectives as well as meet College priorities. This will include tailoring DARO-led activities and initiatives, where appropriate, to ensure maximum benefit for the College. The post is line-managed by the Head of Volunteering but works exclusively for the College.
