Evaluation Manager – Established Charity (Contract)
London, SW8 (with occasional travel to our sites in the UK)

Are you passionate about evidence-based practice and able to deliver evaluation projects, from start to finish? Could you help a growing charity tell the story of how their work transforms lives? If so, you may be the Evaluation Manager we’re looking for.

About Us

The National Literacy Trust is a national charity dedicated to raising literacy levels in the UK. We run projects in the poorest communities, campaign to make literacy a priority for politicians and parents, and support schools. Our mission is to give young people the literacy skills they need to get a job and lead a successful life.

One person in six in the UK has poor literacy skills that impact on every area of their life. A child without good reading, writing and communication skills can’t succeed at school, and as an adult they could be locked out of the job market. Poverty doubles the likelihood of literacy failure by the age of five.

We’re now looking for an Evaluation Manager to join us, initially on a 12 month fixed-term contract, and help us explore our impact and tell our organisational narrative of change.

The Benefits

- Salary of £30,000 - £34,000 per annum
- Pension scheme
- Travel expenses
- Take on a rewarding contract with an ambitious organisation
- 28 days’ holiday plus Bank Holidays and a Christmas closure

We believe that the ability to communicate is a fundamental right and that society will only be fair when everyone has the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills they need to fulfil their potential.

This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role in expanding our evidence-based culture and embedding evaluation findings into programme delivery and development.

You will have the chance to make a positive impact on the way the National Literacy Trust operates and help us to transform even more lives through literacy.

The Role

As the Evaluation Manager, you will review and manage evaluation activities across the charity.

Joining our Research Team, you’ll enable us to collect the best possible data to evidence our impact and communicate it in the simplest but most meaningful terms.

You’ll be involved in every stage of the evaluation process, including supporting funding bids, programme design and community consultations, designing evaluation tools, analysing data and writing up the findings.

Some of your duties will involve:

- Leading the monitoring and evaluation strategy
- Supporting the delivery of quantitative and qualitative evaluation projects
- Building on our existing outcomes framework
- Providing advice, guidance and quality assurance for all aspects of evaluation design, implementation, analysis and report writing

About You

To join us as an Evaluation Manager, you’ll need:

- Experience of delivering evaluation projects from start to finish, including writing proposals, data collection, analysis and write-up
- The ability to analyse and interpret complex datasets
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work well in a team

Ideally, you’ll have an understanding of the challenges of working with young children and how best to collect data from this age group. Knowledge of current UK education/literacy policy and practice would also be beneficial.

Other organisations may call this role Research Manager, Research & Evaluation Manager, Evaluation Project Manager, Evaluation Programme Manager or Research & Monitoring Manager.

The National Literacy Trust is committed to being an equal opportunities employer and aims to ensure that no job applicant or employee receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, ethnicity or religion.
