About The Flying Seagull Project

We believe that it is everyone, man, woman or child’s right to put aside the cares of life and smile for a while. We work with widely varying groups in several countries to help bring smiles and happiness to people, whether as Clown Doctors for children undergoing difficult medical treatments or through arts, music and crafts workshops.

In the past ten years we have shared magic, music and meaningful childhood activities with more than 120,’000 children around the world. We call it a laugholution, and it’s purpose is to make sure that the communities we work with know that their happiness matters.

Job Description

The Flying Seagull Project is a ground-breaking movement that uses music, art and magic to transform the lives of children and communities in crisis. A registered charity with a strong and growing track record in income generation, we’re now looking for someone to lead our fundraising efforts and help take our play and laughter to new heights.

The role of Fundraising and Development Manager will require a dynamic, determined, creative, warm, professional and principled person, who is willing to innovate in fundraising while ensuring that our regular income streams are maintained and grown to the highest standard. This will be the first full-time fundraising position we have offered, so we are seeking someone who is ready to make their mark with new, exciting and inspiring ideas.

Key Responsibilities

− Set financial targets for fundraising activities, and create and implement strategies for reaching them, balancing restricted with unrestricted funding and maintaining an awaress of return on investment at all times

− Inspire new supporters to raise money, while maintaining and developing relationships with existing supporters

− Plan and co-ordinate fundraising events that tie in with our dynamic festival programme

− Serve as the main point of contact and support for community fundraising, involving members of the public and groups

− Create engaging content for fundraising mail-outs, online campaigns and posts

− Approach individuals, schools, universities, local authorities and commercial organisations for sponsorship and donations

− Develop and coordinate merchandise design, placement and sales, both online and at events.

− Contact and build relationships with prospective major donors

Qualifications and experience

− A minimum of three years’ experience in professional fundraising.

− Experience in and/or a passion for the cultural sector.

− Experience of a wide range of fundraising activities (including public fundraising) and proven success with substantial income generation.

− Good knowledge of the principles of fundraising.

− Experience and understanding of databases and online administrative tools.

In addition, you will need to show:

− creativity, imagination and an entrepreneurial attitude towards fundraising;

− sales and negotiation abilities, and a proven ability to meet financial targets;

− exceptional written and oral communication skills;

− resourcefulness, creative thinking and problem solving;

− a proactive attitude, and the drive and enthusiasm to carry projects to conclusion;

− ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;

− good organisational and project-management skills, exceptional time management;

− the ability to motivate others and work as part of a team;

− resilience, particularly when faced with setbacks;

− sensitivity to the needs of volunteers and donors.
