Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) is the UK’s leading dementia research charity dedicated to diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure. Backed by our passionate scientists and supporters, we’re challenging the way people think about dementia, bringing together the people and organisations who can speed up progress, and investing in research to make life-changing breakthroughs possible.

We are looking for a motivated and inquisitive Prospect Research Officer to join our busy Insight and Development team, supporting ARUK’s ambitious targets by ensuring our fundraisers have all they need to attract and grow donations. This is a new role within Prospect Research to provide increased support to our growing fundraising teams.  Your role will be to seek out, analyse and report on information from a range of sources, identifying prospective individual donors (at major and principal gifts levels), companies and grant-making trusts.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dedicated and passionate team supporting the Prospect Research Manager, within the UK’s leading dementia research charity.

Main tasks of the role:

  • Take a proactive and creative approach to identifying new prospects from our database, networks and other sources.
  • Undertake detailed research into prospects in order to establish philanthropic capacity.
  • Develop full and accurate prospect/donor research profiles and effectively communicate those to colleagues across the department.
  • Assist teams in managing and prioritising portfolios to the best of their ability.
  • Proactively build partnerships across the charity, including working closely with fundraising teams and collaborating with the Data Services team to improve data integrity.
  • Ensure useful, accurate and clear record keeping of prospects on the fundraising database to allow us to identify connections and build our networks.
  • Keep up to date with data protection law and confidentiality.
  • Undertake detailed and thorough Due Diligence profiles as required.
  • Assist with training other teams in basic research, prospect management and database use.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience of research, ideally within prospect research, however candidates with experience in other transferable research environments may be considered.
  • Experience of working with databases (preferably fundraising databases).
  • Understanding of data protection and confidentiality.
  • Creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to identify opportunities.
  • Ability to work proactively and independently on your own initiative.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build and manage relationships both internally and externally.

Location: Granta Park, near Cambridge.

Salary: Circa £28,000 per annum, plus benefits
