Help to build safer childhoods, stronger families and positive futures for the UK’s most vulnerable children and young people

Barnardo’s is establishing its own Foundation, which will over time become the custodian of our significant voluntary funds. It will ensure these funds are distributed internally or externally in a transparent, impactful and innovative way, ensuring we track where every pound is spent and thoroughly evaluate the impact we have made. This is an exciting opportunity to implement the vision from day one, leading the establishment and development of the Foundation, including developing a new Foundation team, a new Advisory Board and detailed decision making and evaluation processes (working with the existing task and finish group) in readiness for launch in April 2020.

As a natural collaborator, you will work with colleagues to break down silos and develop innovative ways to address current and emerging needs to improve outcomes for children and young people. You will be proactive in identifying opportunities to invest funds, internally or with partner organisations, and will develop and maintain a ‘pipeline' of investment opportunities. With a strong handle on ensuring that these funds are distributed in line with the Foundation vision, tracking where every pound is spent and making sure we evaluate our impact in line with our Corporate Strategy.

You will bring a significant track record of managing in charitable giving/grant-making organisations at a senior management level, experience of working in complex organisations, and operating in a semi-independent capacity or role. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential in this role as you will engage with senior managers and the wider charity to inspire them about the role of the Foundation and the impact it will have on them and their teams. You will have good entrepreneurial skills based on experience of bringing in new funding streams to show the charity how it can attract funding for future work, as well as engaging externally to attract partners, donors and other third parties to work towards our common goals.
