A great theatre needs great people.  We can only thrive by having the right team on board in a fast-paced, constantly changing, creative workplace.

About Us

Since we opened our doors in 1899, we have existed to enrich the cultural life of our city. We believe arts and culture has the power to bring people, friends and families together, and as we continue to align ourselves to the future ambition of Birmingham, our vision is clear. We are creating a world-class cultural scene for our region with the Birmingham Hippodrome at the centre stage.

As an independent charity, we are proud of our wide-ranging and varied programme of theatre, dance, festivals, education and community activities that help make life-long memories, create opportunities and improve the lives of our diverse communities. Drawing no regular income from any public grant givers, we are funded through ticket sales from our 1,800-seat auditorium, 200-seat Patrick Studio, catering offerings, hospitality events and fundraising.

To achieve our vision, we need the best people on board who are passionate and committed to take us – and Birmingham – on the next phase of our exciting journey.

About The Role

We are preparing for a once in a generation opportunity to redevelop Birmingham Hippodrome into a cultural hub to meet the needs of our region’s youth and diversity. We will begin a capital build in May 2021 and the next 18 months will see us undertake a large-scale capital fundraising campaign. This is where your skills as a capable Trust and Grant specialist are needed. We want you to work with us to quickly to develop and write a range of trust and grant bids.

Collaborating with the existing team, you will help shortlist potential trust and grant givers for our strategic and artistic ambitions as well as our capital campaign. You will scope overview paper/briefs of potential funders and write or co-author high quality proposals and applications. Important will be the ability to meet funders’ criteria and timelines.

We are open to a wide range of proposals – from a part time fixed term appointment to a freelancer or agency delivery.  We hope you will be able to support us from April 2020 – March 2021.

You must have experience in a similar role and a record of producing successful funding applications. Expert at matching funder requirements to outcomes and project need, you will be skilled at summarising information into digestible papers and briefs. You will also have a persuasive and dynamic writing style as well as the ability to vary your approach for different application formats and audiences.

At Birmingham Hippodrome we are committed to providing equal opportunities for everyone.
