Volunteering Manager (Volunteers/Fundraising)

Canine Partners’ mission is to transform the lives of adults with physical disabilities through partnership with our specially trained assistance dogs. 

With around 430 people now living with a fully trained canine partner in the UK, we have ambitious goals to develop our volunteer programme to enable us to transform even more lives as we approach our 30th anniversary. 

Position: Volunteering Development Manager 
Location: Heyshott, West Sussex or Osgathorpe, Leicestershire (will involve travel to visit our volunteers based across the UK.) 
Job type: Full Time, Fixed term for 12 months 
Salary: £26-28k depending on experience

About the role: 

Canine Partners has an exciting opportunity for a Volunteering Development Manager to develop and deliver a comprehensive and innovative volunteering programme that supports the work of all aspects of the charity and provides an attractive and flexible offer that meets the needs of a wide range of volunteers. 

Volunteers are an essential part of the Canine Partners family, supporting staff in all areas of our work. Our network of volunteers help socialise our puppies, foster our dogs in training, donate their professional skills, give talks at schools and groups and raise money through community events. Every minute of time that is volunteered for Canine Partners, helps us to continue transforming the lives of people with physical disabilities. 

In this role, you will develop our volunteering strategy to support our volunteers and enable them to reach their full potential. You will lead the implementation of consistent policies and processes, and train the teams that support our volunteer communities. 

You’ll create plans for the attraction, recruitment, placement and retention of volunteers to increase the impact we deliver and ensure we have a sufficient number of skilled volunteers to support our operations and deliver our ambitious strategic plans. Although no direct line management duties, the successful candidate will be responsible for liaising with hundreds of volunteers across the UK. You’ll ensure volunteering is considered, promoted, measured and celebrated across the charity by championing the role of volunteers. 

About you: 

To be considered for this role you’ll have significant experience of supporting and developing a diverse pool of volunteers and applying best practice principles to volunteering. You’ll be able to work alone using initiative with strong planning and organising skills. Working collaboratively across the charity, you will be able to build strong relationships and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Along with these abilities, you’ll be able to champion our charity values and interact with our volunteers and supporters in a positive, enthusiastic and consistent way. 

Key requirements for this role are: 

-Management/leadership qualification or Volunteer Management Qualification 
-Proven ability to manage, motivate and supervise volunteers 
-Strategic approach with an eye for detail 
-Demonstrable project management skills or qualification 
-Good communication and training skills and an ability to empower, inspire and motivate others 

Most importantly you will be passionate about the transformative impact that our assistance dogs provide to our beneficiaries.
