Purpose: To facilitate an integrated programme of acquiring and retaining individual supporters with the propensity to donate at least £2k per year. To improve our understanding of donors and prospects, develop compelling tailored proposals that meet individuals’ needs, organise and sometimes attend engagements, and provide administrative support. Overall, to help maximise net income streams.

This post is open to both Senior Officer and Officer level candidates. Salary and level of responsibility will be reflected accordingly. CBM UK puts an emphasis on training for its employees.

Key responsibilities

The Senior Officer – Major Donor Fundraising is a key support role, facilitating donations from a maturing major donor fundraising programme.

1. Major donor activity (70%)

a) Co-ordinate regular and appropriate screening of the CBM UK database to identify high net worth individuals.

b) Research the charitable interests and other relevant background information of appropriate individuals to help identify, solicit and cultivate individual donors with the propensity to give at least £2k per year. Identify opportunities for further support.

c) Develop and implement systems for mapping contacts and ensuring appropriate follow-up is carried out.

d) Prepare briefs on donors /prospects/influential advocates for colleagues.

e) Write and develop compelling, tailored proposals which inspire major financial support. Where appropriate source images and obtain content from others. Contribute to the development of a strong overarching case for support.

f) Organise major donor events, visits and meetings attended by colleagues. Events may also be attended by other supporters as appropriate, such as high donors, legacy prospects, regular givers or high profile supporters.

g) Provide support to Head of Major Relationships and others at face to face major donor events, meetings and presentation pitches.

h) Other support for Head of Major Relationships, including diary management and UK travel and accommodation arrangements.

2. Communications and networking (20%)

a) Internal

i) Develop and maintain a detailed knowledge of CBM UK’s work, current objectives and future plans in order to match donor interests effectively, produce appropriate and timely communications reflecting the funding needs and operational priorities of CBM UK

ii) Liaise with the Supporter Care and Supporter Growth teams to ensure major donor prospects are fed through.

iii)  Liaise with the Programmes and Communications teams on the production of supporting content and materials for major donor fundraising.

iv)  Work with other teams, including CBM International to maximise cross-fertilisation opportunities and integrated working.

b) External

i) Work with project partners to gain information and organise supporter visits to strengthen major donor fundraising.

ii) Maintain an awareness and anticipation of charity sector trends relating to major relationship fundraising to enable CBM to respond and adapt quickly where appropriate.

iii)  Be an outstanding advocate for CBM, delivering communications in line with the vision and values of the charity.

3. Planning, reporting, budgets (10%)

a) Ensure appropriate recording of major donor fundraising activity through the database (Salesforce) where possible or standard spread-sheets or files, such as the touchpoint plan, donation grids and gift records.

b) Work closely with finance and programme colleagues to ensure all grants are correctly allocated and used and conditions met.

c) Collate data and information to enable reporting for key performance indicators, milestones, budgets and targets to facilitate informed decisions and improved working practice.

4. Culture

a) Help develop a culture of enthusiasm and success which reflects the ambitions of CBM UK.

b) Play an active role across the CBM UK team, promoting positive working and innovation. Seek to improve working practice at all opportunities. Ensure that the values of the CBM UK brand are understood by the team and its external partners and are always reflected in communications.

5. Other

a) In the event of a humanitarian crisis, contribute to developing an emergency appeal to appropriate major supporters at short notice.

b) Support the Head of Major Relationships in developing strategies for individual major donors.

c) Occasional travel throughout the UK, including out of normal office working hours.

d) Carry out any other duties as required by the Head of Major Relationships and Director of Fundraising & Communications.
