For over 50 years Ataxia UK has been the leading charity for people with ataxia, their families and carers. Ataxia is the name given to a group of life-limiting, neurological disorders that affect balance, coordination, and speech.

Make a real difference!

You will manage our community, corporate, and events function. You will develop the relationships we have with our many supporters who hold community fundraising events of all types. You will encourage fundraising activities led by our 55 branches and support groups. You will support the existing annual events of our community fundraisers including The Belper Games, the Spring Classic Bike Ride, the Chelsea Street Party, and the London Marathon; plus take responsibility for our London walk and develop new events.

The successful candidate….

……. will have experience and a track record of community fundraising and of working with volunteers or within a volunteering environment. They will be creative and innovative in developing fundraising activity and interested in developing our digital fundraising strategy. They will understand the principles of good supporter care, be a confident self-starter with a positive attitude, and possess excellent communication, interpersonal, planning, and IT skills.

Growing Fundraising!

We are entering an exciting period of growth with the launch of our new Strategic Plan (2017– 2020) focussing on the needs and aspirations of people affected by ataxia. This is accompanied by a new Fundraising Strategy which will significantly increase our team and investment in fundraising and aims to double our income in the next five years.

This new post of Community Fundraising Manager is fundamental to the delivery of this plan. The postholder will have the opportunity to develop the role and make a huge impact on the work and success of Ataxia UK.

The successful candidate will join a small, friendly team of 14 staff, based at our office in Highgate.

Ataxia

There are many different types of ataxia that can affect people in different ways. Anyone of any age can get ataxia, but certain types are more common in certain age groups. For example, people with Friedreich’s ataxia are usually diagnosed in childhood or adolescence. There are at least 10,000 adults and around 500 children in the UK with a progressive ataxia. Some forms of ataxia are treatable, but in most cases there is still no cure. We are supporting research and putting in lots of effort to get treatments or cures for the ataxias whilst supporting people affected by ataxia until a cure is found.
