Development Assistant at the Rhodes Trust

Background

The Rhodes Scholarships were founded in 1902.  Today, 95 Scholars from countries around the world are selected annually on the basis of outstanding intellect, character, leadership, and commitment to service. The Rhodes Scholarships support students who demonstrate a strong propensity to emerge as 'leaders for the world’s future'.

The mission of the Rhodes Trust is to support Scholars in residence at Oxford and to give them the opportunity to develop their potential.

The Position

Applications are invited for the position of Development Assistant within the successful Development team at Rhodes House. The Trust is currently running a £150 million international fundraising campaign: ‘Campaign for the Second Century’.

The Development Assistant works in the critical areas of data entry, prospect management, gift recording and other general administrative and research duties as set out below.

Core priorities of the Development Assistant:

  • Data administration tasks arising including extensive use of the thankQ database to retrieve, record, create and update records, and to pull data reports.
  • Donation processing and gift entry process on the database.
  • Preparing thank you letters and emails to donors.
  • Occasional assistance for events – which may involve working on site at evenings or weekends.
  • Compiling information packs and other materials.
  • Monitoring the development office email inbox, scheduling meetings / travel arrangements and taking minutes.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in, or wishing to develop a career in, fundraising within the Higher Education sector.  The Rhodes Trust wishes to invest in its employees and expects to offer training in areas which will enhance the postholder’s skills for the role.  For the right person there is the opportunity to develop the role and take on further responsibilities.

Line of report:

The Development Assistant will report to the Director of Communications, and will work closely with all colleagues in the Development team.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Educated to a minimum of A-level standard. A degree is desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • A proactive approach with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Confident and competent database skills including highly accurate data entry.
  • Excellent general IT skills (Microsoft Office etc).
  • Analytical and problem solving capability.
  • Ability to follow processes accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong written and proofreading skills.

Terms of appointment:

This will be a fixed term post, with a competitive salary and 25 days annual leave, plus public holidays.  Note that applicants must be eligible to work in the UK. A competitive starting salary will be negotiated, expected to be in the range of £19,000 to £23,000 depending on experience.

As soon as possible; a later start date would be considered for the right candidate.
