About Historic Environment Scotland

Historic Environment Scotland (HES) is the lead body for Scotland’s historic environment, a charity dedicated to protecting Scotland’s places and sustaining the historic environment and its benefits for future generations. Our work is shaped around five strategic themes – Lead, Understand, Protect, Value and Perform – the detail of which is set out in our 3 year Corporate Plan and Annual Operating Plan.

About the role

This is a new senior post, reporting directly to the Chief Executive, with responsibility for driving forward a range of strategic developments vital to the future work of HES and the wider sector.

The post holder will identify and explore the big issues and questions for Scotland’s historic environment, both now and in the future. They will lead HES engagement with partners and stakeholders, take forward new areas of work and coordinate work strands across the organisation. They will provide leadership and foresight both for HES and the historic environment sector including, as lead Director responsible for the delivery of Our Place in Time, the historic environment strategy for Scotland. 

Requirements

The successful post holder will hold a relevant degree, and will have membership of an appropriate professional body i.e IoF, CiPR, IoD. They will have experience of working in the Historic Environment with substantial experience in a senior management role. Previous experience of working in a policy and/or research and/or fundraising role is essential along with a track record of liaising, working with and building relationships with internal and external partners.
