National Museums Liverpool is seeking a Director of Development to join its strategic management team.

NML recognises that, to achieve our organisational objectives, it is vital to improve and extend the range of income generation.  We aim to strengthen and diversify our supporter base and to build deeper relationships with major donors at a time when public funding is under pressure.

The new Director of Development will be responsible for helping to shape the organisation’s strategic direction. This post offers an exceptional candidate the opportunity to enable NML to integrate development into the heart of its strategy.

The postholder will be a member of NML’s Executive Team and will provide sound strategic advice and guidance to the Director, Board of Trustees, and Executive Team. As a member of the Executive Team this role will contribute to the development of organisational strategy and the achievement of NML’s objectives.

We are investing in fundraising capacity and seek a strategic leader who can help us develop and implement a meaningful strategy to realise and sustain NML’s vision for the future.

As Director of Development, you will be demonstrate an active commitment to NML mission and values.  Reporting to the Director you will lead and oversee the management of the Development Office Team and strategic fundraising, whilst  working as part of the NML Executive Team.

A key priority will be to ensure that NML’s evolving capital development aspirations, major exhibition programme and community education developments are achieved.  You will spend the majority of your time building relationships with higher level supporters in the United Kingdom and potentially overseas.  Key requirements include strategic vision, leadership and management skills; the ability to develop and implement strategic plans and to identify major gift prospects and work with professional and curatorial colleagues to develop these relationships; a talent for inspiring interest in NML; excellent social skills and cultural understanding; and outstanding oral and written communication skills.

You will nurture and drive a productive and fruitful relationship with NML’s Board of Trustees to enable effective and long-term cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of supporters.
