The Children’s Heart Unit at the Freeman Hospital is one of only two centres in the UK offering paediatric heart transplant and bridge to transplant, with transplant numbers increasing to the point where the unit now provides almost HALF of the UK’s paediatric transplants. They also have the expertise and support systems through their transplant service to allow them to undertake high-risk surgery.

Providing world class care, the unit is structured to deliver the best possible results for critically ill babies, children and young people.

CHUF – The Children’s Heart Unit Fund is an independent charity established in 1983 and has seen substantial growth in recent years, we now have 5 staff and are looking to expand. We have exciting plans for future growth.

Our team are highly motivated in their aim to raise in excess of £1m each year to support large and small pieces of equipment , salaries and research. We raise funds through Events, Corporate and Community support . Our CHUF supporters have worked with us over many years  to help us to achieve  our aims  and we receive support from across the UK.

CHUF’s charitable aims are to promote the physical and mental health of patient and their families suffering from Congenital heart disease

Mission

Our mission is to make life better for children and young people who are born with or develop heart conditions by providing lifelong support to them and their families. This is achieved by supporting the regional Children’s Heart Unit at Freeman Hospital including its national commitment as one of only two units undertaking transplantation and all the other Hospitals and staff in the North of England managing children with heart disease by raising vital funds for large and small pieces of equipment, facilities, aftercare, salaries and research. We support a clown doctor programme , the Children's Transplant Games and offer support for family holidays and activities.

CHUF’s aim is to provide support over and above NHS funding and to assist the children and their families from the moment they need the specialist care. Our Trustees and fundraising team work closely with medical staff and families to ensure that CHUF’s support is targeted to where it is most needed.

Essential criteria

Excellent communication skills both written and oral.

Excellent attention to detail.

Able to produce accurate detailed reports in a timely manner. 

High degree of administration skills, e.g. setting up and maintaining databases.

Ability to manage efficient filing systems.

Ability to work to deadlines.

Ability to work on own initiative.

Desirable Experience

Knowledge of fundraising initiatives

Knowledge of data protection

Financial and/or Charity sector

Knowledge of Xero

AAT accountancy - part or fully qualified
