Freedom from Torture is the only UK human rights organization dedicated to treating and supporting torture survivors who seek refuge in the UK. We do this primarily through psychological therapies but also services which document torture forensically, practical legal and welfare support and creative groups in centres across the UK.

Thanks to the dedication of our staff and volunteers – as well as thousands of passionate supporters and funders – thousands of torture survivors have been able to rebuild their lives in incredibly difficult circumstances.

As part of our ten-year vision to support more survivors of torture, Freedom from Torture has invested in fundraising to support significant growth targeted across all income streams. To support these plans we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Legacy Programme Manager. At £1.6m in 2017, Legacy income accounts for 18% of our total income.

You’ll be responsible for developing marketing materials to support a programme of high quality and effective stewardship. It’s an incredibly important role as you’ll oversee budget management, target setting and achievement, and foster strong relationships with existing and potential donors as well as support senior staff and other colleagues managing other donor relationships. You’ll also manage an external team who deal with the administration of Legacy income. This is an extremely rewarding and varied role.

The ideal candidate will have a solid background in charity Legacy marketing and administration, demonstrable experience and a good track record of successfully using individual giving fundraising techniques with especial focus on promoting gifts in Wills, exceptional writing skills and be results focused and skilled in the development and management of donor relationships.

An up-to-the minute knowledge of probate, tax, charity law and Charity Commission rules is also essential.

For an informal discussion about  the post, please contact Tara Hayes, Head of Individual Giving and Legacies at our London Centre.
