Flag DV is a charity which began in October 2012 and registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in October 2013.

Changes to legal aid made as part of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act (2012), meant many victims of domestic abuse would no longer be able to access free legal assistance.

We seek to provide free legal advice to anyone experiencing domestic abuse in the West Berkshire and surrounding areas. We do this by using practicing solicitors who offer their time to us on a pro-bono basis.  Our referrals come via a specialist domestic abuse support organisation who help to safeguard the victim and any children living in the family.  We also receive referrals from partner organisations working in the field of keeping adults and children safe.

FLAGDV is run by a small team of committed trustees and we are now looking to take our organisation to the next level and fundraise to ensure we have a resilient service to take into 2017 and beyond.

Background

We have received a number of donations and funding grants from local people and organisations who support our work and recognise the value of the service we provide. We have recently undertaken a strategic review and we have plans which mean we need to secure new funding streams that will take us forward in providing essential legal advice for people who are experiencing domestic abuse and with a view to expanding our service in the future.

We now need a designated fundraiser who, will identify and secure new avenues of funding.

Purpose of the Role

We are looking for a confident, experienced and motivated Fundraiser to bring in the resources we need to sustain our organisation and ensure we deliver the best service possible to victims of domestic abuse.

The main focus of this role will be to research and secure new funding opportunities through:

• Identifying and developing relationships with potential new funders;
• Preparing and submitting high quality funding proposals in accordance with timetables and application criteria;
• Maintaining accurate records, analysis and reporting of new funding secured.

Person Specification

This role would suit a candidate with a good understanding of the charity sector and proven success of fundraising from a variety of sources, including trusts and foundations, along with an ability to write with flair and creativity.

Essential

• A self-starter who can hit the ground running;
• Voluntary sector experience with a proven track record of securing new funding;
• Experience of writing creative and persuasive proposals, with the ability to demonstrate how to achieve clear outcomes and impact;
• Good research skills with experience of identifying quality new fundraising leads;
• Proven ability to form good working relationships, both internally and externally with people at all levels;
• Ability to work on own initiative and to meet objectives and tight deadlines under pressure;
• Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Good organisational skills with ability to prioritise work to meet tight deadlines
• Demonstrable success of securing five and six figure grants

Desirable

• Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation processes in the charity sector.
• An understanding of the dynamics of domestic abuse or a willingness to learn about this important issue.
