Noah's Ark Children's Hospice is a community based hospice service providing care and support for babies, children, young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families in Central and North London. Our mission is to ensure that families are able to live life as fully as possible whilst their child is still alive and go on to face the future with hope after bereavement.

This is a hugely exciting time to be joining Noah’s Ark as we look to raise the funds required to expand our existing Hospice - at - Home services and construct what will be the only children’s hospice building in North London. Our expanded care provision will ensure that we are able to offer a complete hospice service for the 1,169 babies, children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions in our catchment area.

Summary of the Role

The Fundraising Assistant will work as part of the Income Generation Team undertaking a donor relationship role. This is a predominantly reactive role: thanking supporters for their donations and responding to requests from individuals, however, the role will also include general fundraising activities, including donor research. It will require strong administration, organisation and communication skills and the key elements of the role are:

  • To help grow unrestricted income from Individuals. To establish, develop and maintain sustainable relationships with donors in order to maximise income. This includes overseeing Noah’s Ark’s lottery in conjunction with Your Hospice Lottery.
  • To support the ‘Building the Ark’ Campaign – to build our hospice building. This includes responding to donations and supporter requests for information and materials.
  • To work collaboratively across teams to help generate fundraising leads and maximise income from companies, events and major donors.

Tasks and Responsibilities

1. Thanking

  • To provide high quality, timely, engaging and bespoke ‘thank yous’ (telephone calls, cards, letters) to Individual donors
  • To provide excellent donor care to Individuals supporting Noah’s Ark through one-off donations, in memoriam gifts, celebration donations, website, text and any other methods
  • To act as liaison for Noah’s Ark charity shops and to provide appropriate thank yous to Individuals who donate in this way
  • To regularly check online giving sites such as Just Giving and Virgin Money Giving and thank any individual donors accordingly

2. Stakeholder relationships

  • To respond to supporter requests for information and materials about the Building the Ark Campaign, and to monitor the influx of these requests as the Campaign progresses
  • To manage all general fundraising enquiries and to hand over to the appropriate team member when necessary
  • To work with the Fundraising Manager to recruit more Regular Givers and uplift the gifts of existing Regular Givers

3. Communication

  • To work with colleagues who support communications and marketing activities to produce strong and compelling fundraising materials for monthly e-news, biannual Aboard the Ark newsletter, and ad hoc local campaigns across a wide range of media
  • To work with the Fundraising Manager to increase awareness around legacy fundraising and to support with bi-annual Will Week initiative
  • To work with the Your Hospice Lottery team to recruit, engage and retain lottery players throughout our contract with them, and to induct all Your Hospice Lottery fundraisers
  • To work in conjunction with the Marketing and Communications Officer to distribute and sell the Noah’s Ark Christmas and general cards

4. Database Management

  • To ensure the relationship management database, Donorflex, is updated with new Individual donor details; all donor communication is up to date and recorded correctly including the recording of consent given by supporters
  • To assist the Finance team when performing Gift Aid re-claims

5. Administration

  • To work with an internal events committee to coordinate Noah’s Ark’s annual Supporter Thank You Evening
  • To ensure the charity mascot booking system is being utilised
  • To provide support to the Director of Income Generation and Communications with administrative tasks such as expenses, expenditure paperwork and organising monthly Fundraising team meeting space and room bookings

In addition the Fundraising Assistant will be expected:

  • To work within legal and charity guidelines, especially within the Institute of Fundraising Code of Practice
  • To manage and work within Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice’s fundraising administrative, IT systems and guidelines
  • To represent Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice as required and to be an Ambassador for the charity at all times
  • To undertake training and skills development and keep up to date with the changing requirements of the role
  • To undertake other duties as may be required

Additional Notes

  • The post will involve travel around the boroughs and some home working where appropriate and pre-agreed with line manager will be available.
  • This role may involve flexible working hours to include some evening and weekend work – time off in lieu will be given in these instances.
  • You will be expected to work within legal and charity guidelines, ensuring compliance with CQC and other statutory regulations.
  • You will be expected to work within Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice administrative and IT systems and guidelines and be aware of, and comply with the relevant rules and policies.
