About ACEVO

ACEVO is the professional association of chief executives in the third sector with around 1,200 members. Our mission is to inspire effective leadership in a modern enterprising third sector.

Our members collectively have a turnover of more than £9bn and range from small community organisations to the UK’s largest charities. We are a leading national voice on third sector issues within government and the national media.

We have a turnover of around £750,000 and about 15 staff (10 FTE).
 

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

You will be responsible for ACEVO’s fundraised income and business development activity and for its work with corporate partners in particular. You will lead a range of fundraising activities and manage relationships with stakeholders. You will be responsible for growing income from a variety of sources, income streams and relationships.

ACEVO’s corporate partners are a diverse group of organisations ranging from international banks and law firms to market research companies and specialist recruitment consultancies. You will work with this valued part of our network to understand their objectives and provide them with appropriate opportunities that both fit their needs and offer added value to our members.

As a member of the senior management team, you will have a key role in determining the overall direction of ACEVO as we seek to deliver our ambitious plans despite a tough environment for our members.

MAIN DUTIES

Fundraising generally

  • Take responsibility for ACEVO’s funding, sponsorship and corporate partner income streams to achieve targeted income levels through a balance of account management and business development
  • Develop ideas for creative sponsorship and funding opportunities which meet the needs of corporate partners, funders and members: putting together proposal documents; identifying suitable partners; presenting proposals and closing deals; drawing up and negotiating contracts and ensuring delivery
  • Use your skills, creativity and experience to keep developing our income generation strategy in response to the evolving funding landscape
  • Work with the membership, policy and leadership development team to scope and develop exciting new project proposals. 

Corporate Partners

  • Devise and implement arrangements for ACEVO’s work with corporate partners, including recruiting and managing relationships with corporate partners
  • Supporting our events by securing corporate venues and ensuring partners are receiving value from these activities
  • Representing the views of corporate partners internally and connecting them to relevant opportunities
  • Ensuring effective communication of corporate partner offers through our website and email channels

Fundraising  

  • Raise funds for ACEVO projects by liaising with grant funders
  • Manage funding pipelines from Trusts & Foundations, statutory sources, high-net-worth individuals and corporates 
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of ACEVO’s membership services

Marketing and External Relations

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of ACEVO’s marketing and its website in particular
  • Represent ACEVO to external audiences (in the media, at events, in meetings with senior stakeholders)

Management

  • Advise the chief executive on organisational strategy and participate in SMT meetings
  • Attend ACEVO board meetings and report to the board on relevant matters
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of financial targets and progress, liaising with the finance team as required
  • Ensure our Salesforce database is kept up to date and partners’ interests and activities are tracked

PERSON SPECIFICATION

You will have

  • Substantial experience of fundraising and development activity, including
    • Handling key clients
    • Preparing, costing, pitching and closing proposals
    • Ensuring delivery of initiatives on time and within budget to the satisfaction of all parties
  • Significant experience of working with corporate partners
  • Demonstrable experience of achieving trust and foundation grants
  • Experience of producing timely, high-quality reports, bids and proposals and funding 
  • Demonstrable experience of building and sustaining relationships and partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experience of evaluating projects and measuring impact
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Good knowledge of the third sector
  • An understanding of, and commitment to, the values of accountability, equality, probity and openness
