We are looking for an experienced and strategic leader to join us as Head of Community Engagement and be accountable for developing and driving forward the community engagement strategy focusing on growth in income over the next 5 years.

As Head of Community Engagement you will develop and lead a high performing team to inspire and engage volunteers and supporters in the community, with the aim of creating long term grassroots support for Save the Children. Leading the development and delivery of the Community Engagement strategy, you will set stretching targets with the aim of significantly increasing income over the next 5 years, whilst evaluating and reviewing the strategy and making changes when necessary. Understanding the Community Engagement audiences and their motivations, you will ensure Save the Children take a relevant and holistic approach and ensure that all activity is legal and safe. In addition you will:

  • Oversee the development of supporter experience within the team, with the aim to deepen engagement and develop long term support and recognition
  • Be externally focused, building relationships across the sector and learning from the private sector
  • Identify new audiences and drive streams of income through SME’s, schools, groups and associations
  • Develop, inspire and lead a high performing team with ambitious goals and clear accountabilities
  • Act as a senior representative of Save the Children within the community, attending key volunteer events and activities when needed and managing relationships with key volunteers.

To be successful you will have significant experience working in a Community Fundraising environment as well as experience working with volunteers and supporters, understanding exactly what motivates them to support a charity and engage with a brand. You will have experience leading a large remote team to deliver ambitious income targets and have outstanding leadership skills with the ability to provide clear direction and challenges to the team. A confident public speaker with the ability to inspire others through communication, you will have a passionate commitment to the cause. In addition you will have:

  • Experience working with volunteers and managing high value relationships
  • Experience developing and implementing excellent supporter experience whilst managing change and growing income
  • The ability to work across departmental boundaries, breaking down barriers, to achieve shared organisational goals
  • The ability to develop and execute complex strategies
  • Experience working across a range of public fundraising disciplines
  • A degree level qualification or equivalent experience.

The willingness and ability to travel regularly across the UK and work outside core hours is also essential.
