Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Community and Events Officer to join our award winning Homeless Charity. Here at hyh we have recently celebrated winning "Hertfordshire Childrens Services Charity Partner of the Year".  This is a fantastic opportunity to join our flexible working fundraising team.

Responsible for:

Manage, develop and evaluate an engaging programme of community and events fundraising to deliver a target income of £100k in 2019 including supporting groups and individuals organising fundraising events and activities on behalf of hyh. To support the development and delivery of the Communications Plan

Job purpose:

The Community and Events Officer will:

Contribute to hyh’s overall Fundraising strategy as a member of the Fundraising Team

Identify, develop and support existing and new community and events fundraising activities to increase and generate significant net income and supporter engagement

Provide excellent donor care for all fundraising activities, to develop productive and lasting relationships with the community and convert them into loyal supporters

Assisting the Fundraising & Communications Manager in the development and delivery of hyh’s Communications Plan

Update donor contact databases and website

Specific Duties:

Fundraising & Communications

Be accountable for the community and events annual fundraised income target of £104k, monitoring and evaluating results with the Fundraising and Communications Manager and Community Fundraising Officerin order to grow voluntary income, to help support the financial stability of hyh

Work with hyh colleagues to create and implement strategies to communicate effectively, consistently and cohesively with hyh internal and external audiences in order to maximise awareness of our need for funding and volunteers. Raise the profile of hyh amongst key audiences

To recruit and develop strong long-term relationships with community groups, schools, sports clubs and individuals to increase awareness, support and donated income

To lead on the planning, developing and delivery of hyh events portfolio

Encourage, support and nurture key individuals and community groups to increase their fundraising

Work with the Fundraising and Communications Manager to develop a communication plan that ensures online and offline media coverage, with the appropriate call to action for community fundraising activities and events

To confidently present the key messages of hyh and encourage support via a variety of media

Ensure that all staff and volunteers are thoroughly briefed on community fundraising and event activities and appropriate support provided where necessary

To be proactive in monitoring social media for relevant references to hyh

Work closely, in a collaborative environment, with all Fundraising team members to ensure that all community fundraising activity is integrated and aligned with the overall fundraising strategy, to maximise overall income for hyh

Leadership and Managerial

To recruit, train, develop and assist fundraising volunteers to support activities

To manage relationships with outside agencies and suppliers e.g. golf clubs, venues and event suppliers

Planning, Organisation and Finance

In collaboration with the Fundraising and Communications Manager, contribute to a strategic plan for community fundraising, to generate significant net income, awareness and support for hyh.

To set and monitor budgets, in conjunction with the Fundraising and Communications Manager, for each activity/event and ensure they are delivered on target

Ensure that all activities are cost effective as possible, monitoring expenditure to ensure the best possible ROI and profit

To use eTapestry, the fundraising database, to effectively administer and manage fundraising activities

To produce post-event evaluations and future recommendations for all activities/events

To be responsible for health and safety for community fundraising activities. Ensure that all necessary risk assessments are completed before any fundraising activity is undertaken and that all H&S and fundraising regulations are followed strictly to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers and supporters

To be physically active in setting up and taking down at events and community fundraising activities including some unsociable hours

Work with Finance in relation to regular reporting
