Home-Start Westminster is looking for a committed experienced person, to join the Board of Trustees. We are looking for someone with experience of fundraising, to help identify new opportunities, build strong relationships with potential funders in the locality, oversee our funding strategy and take the lead on the Board for fundraising activities.

Who we are

Home-Start Westminster offers support, friendship and practical help to parents with young children in 3 boroughs – Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea, and Hammersmith and Fulham. It is well established and has a small team of highly trained, enthusiastic staff who have worked in this field for many years. Although a separate charity it is part of the Home-Start UK family and follows its guidance.

How we work

Home-Start Westminster believes that children need a happy and secure childhood and that parents play the key role in giving their children a good start in life. To us every family is special.

We offer a unique service, recruiting and training volunteers to visit families at home who have at least 1 child under 5, to offer informal, friendly and confidential support; the approach is flexible to take account of different needs. Our aim is to increase the confidence and independence of the family.

How we are funded

In 2017 we were funded by the Big Lottery, John Lyons, City Bridge Trust, John Armitage, Hunter’s Solicitors and by individual donations. Our strategic plan is to expand the number of families we support by 30% over the next three years. If we are to meet this goal we need to increase our funding.

Trustee Responsibilities

The Board of Trustees sets the vision, the strategic direction, and management of the charity. It is responsible for overall governance which includes being guardians of the charity’s assets, overseeing operational effectiveness, funding, finance, and human resources. All trustees are unpaid. The Board meets every two months.

Home-start Westminster is committed to safe recruitment practice as an important part of safeguarding and protecting children and vulnerable adults.
