St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital, originally the St John Ophthalmic Hospital, was opened by The Order of St John in 1882 on the Bethlehem Road just south of the old city of Jerusalem. St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group (SJEHG) is a charity reliant on 60% of its income coming from voluntary sources. In 2016, SJEHG saw and treated over 125,000 eye patients, which included performing 5,000 major ophthalmic operations.

SJEHG is the only charitable provider of expert eye care in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem, treating patients regardless of ethnicity, religion or ability to pay. Our flagship Hospital in Jerusalem, our facilities in Anabta, Hebron and Gaza, and our Mobile Outreach Programme which travels across the West Bank bringing eye care to isolated communities, together ensure we have the greatest possible reach and impact in the region.

At a pivotal time of development, SJEHG seeks a skilled and motivated senior fundraising professional with:

  • demonstrable ability to attract philanthropic funding and of the calibre to engage with influential stakeholders both in the UK and overseas
  • strong interpersonal skills, showing tact and sensitivity
  • evidence of building and developing relationships at all levels and disciplines
  • success in leading small teams
  • proven ability to improve performance and to grow revenue
  • creativity and tenacity in driving fundraising growth, including new propositions

If you have the drive, interest and commitment to engage with multiple stakeholders, and if you are a people person, attuned to the sensitivities of high value relationships, we would like to hear from you.
