Leading the fundraising team, you will help Jusoor achieve its mission to advance opportunities for Syrians around the world by shaping how Jusoor funds its initiatives, and communicates with donors and helping Jusoor achieve its strategic objectives. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to work across our organization with a variety of team members as a thought partner, strategy developer, and creator and implementer of fundraising initiatives.

Jusoor (which means ‘bridges’ in Arabic) is an international NGO founded in 2011 with the mission of Investing in Syria’s Youth for a Better Tomorrow. In the short span of 7 years, the organization has become known as a leading global actor in educational and entrepreneurial programs for Syrian children and youth. To date, Jusoor has enabled more than 607 Syrian students to complete their university education, enrolled 4,631 children in primary education, and supported 82 Syrian entrepreneurs. The organization is known for its innovative approach to development challenges, high-velocity execution, and the strength of its global strategic partnerships and its active volunteer base.

Reports to: Jusoor’s Executive Director

Location/department: Remote work from home, within the time-zones of Eastern Standard Time and Gulf Standard Time. Preference to be given to London and Beirut

Time Commitment: 40 hours a week; 6-month maternity leave: June 15th to Dec 31st 2019

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Donor Relations Director leads the efforts to secure funding from both institutional and individual donors, and manage donor partnerships. Jusoor currently raises between one to two million annually, with aims to expand this to over five million within the next three years. We have the outstanding track record of spending over 85% of our donations directly on our programs.

  • Engage with potential new donors and manage the development of funding opportunities
  • Efficiently manage the portfolio of current and previous donors, maintain and ensure quality, accuracy, and confidentiality of donor data
  • Identify, qualify and cultivate donors through 1:1 meetings, calls, letters and engagement activities
  • Coordinate special events including Jusoor’s 2019 Annual Gala and Art Auction, to be held in Q3 in London, UK
  • Coordinate the running of online campaigns at strategically relevant times
  • Write proposals and grants for funding to aid agencies, foundations, corporations and partner NGOs
  • Keep the donor database up-to-date and coordinate the issuing of all relevant thank yous and tax receipts
  • Work closely with the Communication Coordinator to execute communication efforts with fundraising development, including emails to donors and online campaigns

Required Skills, Experience and Abilities

We are seeking a results-oriented person motivated to raise funds for Jusoor who is a natural and genuine relationship builder. The ideal candidate has:

  • Demonstrable experience writing winning proposals to institutional and foundation funders, including associated creating logical frameworks, M&E plans, budgets, and technical narratives
  • Strong experience stewarding donors and knowledge of portfolio management
  • Experience qualifying donors and creating individual financial goals along with personal contact and ask plans
  • Strong writing skills that convey mission, values, and goals in ways compelling to our donors
  • Experience managing fundraising special events and online campaigns
  • Demonstrable experience working with donor databases such as Razor’s Edge, Salesforce or equivalents
  • Well-organized, detailed-oriented and capable of handling confidential information with utmost discretion
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, deal with ambiguity and the ability to reset priorities quickly if needed
  • Can-do spirit and the ability to work independently, but also as part of a team
  • Self-motivated, disciplined and is able to think strategically

  • Excellent computer skills
