Summary

Just Like Us, the LGBT+ charity for young people, is recruiting a Head of Development. As a member of the leadership team, your primary responsibility will be to help develop our new funding strategy, work across different income streams and increase donations from individuals, appeals and trusts. We’re looking for a candidate excited about growing with the organisation, and with the potential to become our Director of Development. You’ll help prepare Just Like Us for a period of growth, building on the achievements of our first three years: over £500,000 raised, thousands of young people empowered, hundreds of schools engaged, recognition from the Prime Minister, and widespread media coverage.

Salary: £40,000 pro rata

Location: (London with flexibility to work from home)

Leave: 25 days pro rata

Other benefits: generous pension scheme

Hours: 4 days/week (0930-1730)

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • leading the annual fundraising planning process to devise strategies to achieve income targets across the range of revenue streams

  • prospecting, building and managing major donor relationships

  • identifying, researching and approaching prospective trusts and foundations and corporate partnerships

  • writing compelling applications to trusts and foundations

  • identifying new potential income streams and produce strategies to access these fund

  • maintaining donor lists and regular updates about our work

  • devising and delivering individual giving programmes, including ambassadors, appeals etc

  • balancing time-cost ratios to target fundraising activities with the highest chance of success.

  • supporting social media around fundraising activities

Skills & Abilities

You will have:

  • a commitment to our vision and mission for LGBT+ young people

  • a minimum of 3 years’ experience fundraising

  • experience in developing and implementing a fundraising strategy

  • excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • outstanding networking skills

  • the confidence to represent and promote Just Like Us and our work

  • the ability to empathise with LGBT+ young people

  • experience of writing successful fundraising applications and materials

  • a demonstrable track record of income generation

  • proven ability to build, manage and develop key stakeholder, client and donor relationships in order to maximise income

  • the ability to work and communicate effectively with a range of donors, including individuals, community groups and trusts

  • an ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve fundraising targets  

  • proficiency in using email, google sheets and google docs
