An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the growing Legacy Team at IFAW.  Founded in 1969, IFAW saves animals in crisis around the world. With projects in more than 40 countries, IFAW rescues individual animals, works to prevent cruelty to animals and advocates for the protection of wildlife and habitats.

This is a great opportunity for an organised self-starter to take on the new role and really make it their own.  You will be working within a fun and dynamic team environment where ideas and challenge are welcome.  Working closely with the Legacy Director to develop the UK legacy strategy including a wide range of marketing techniques to grow enquiry numbers, pledger numbers and stewardship strategies ensuring these amazing gifts are realised.

You will ideally have demonstrable experience working within the charitable legacy field.  With excellent team working and collaborative skills you will be comfortable delivering presentations to many as well as talking to a supporter over the phone about their potential legacy to IFAW.

Position Summary/ Objective

Increase the number of supporters who include a gift in their Will to IFAW and raise awareness of the importance of gifts in Wills to a wider audience, both internally and externally, primarily through personal contact with supporters and the general public.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver a UK legacy program that successfully promotes legacies to our donor base, meeting agreed KPI’s/targets for the role.
  • Achieve an agreed number of new legacy pledges and enquiries annually in consultation with the Legacy Director.
  • Plan, organise and follow-up a series of Legacy Marketing and Stewardship events at locations of appropriate interest, on an on-going annual basis with a view to generating opportunities for developing new legacy enquiries and pledges.
  • Act as first point of contact and knowledge on legacy matters for all UK based staff, principally Supporter Development Staff, Fundraising and Volunteers. Act as the signatory and point of contact on all legacy appeals, materials and digital assets.
  • Responsible for anglicising central legacy appeals working closely with the Direct Marketing team to ensure all content is relevant to a UK audience.
  • Engage key solicitor contacts, keeping them informed and supplied with up to date IFAW legacy information, visiting firms' offices and liaising with fee earners dealing with probate matters.
  • Build relationships with staff and volunteers to ensure they understand the importance of legacy income to the charity and to equip and motivate them to promote legacies regularly and with confidence.
  • Input and update supporter details in our database “Team Approach” ensuring any legacy enquiry or pledge information is kept up to date and is held within the parameters of the data protection regulation.
  • Build an excellent working relationship with the UK legacy administration team to enhance knowledge of legacies being received by IFAW and develop understanding of the ideal profile of a legacy leaver to IFAW.
  • In collaboration with the Legacy Director, ensure all UK regional staff receive appropriate legacy training on a regular basis and are kept up to date on what is happening on both a local and national level, including undertaking inductions for all fundraising new starters.
  • In collaboration with teams within the Development Department and Program staff, develops strategies and tactics to enhance integrated fundraising projects. 
  • Assist in any other special projects as requested by Legacy Director and Regional Director.

EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • 2-3 Years Legacy Marketing Experience or similar length of experience in a Community Fundraising Role
  • Experience of Community Fundraising
  • Experience of maintaining admin processes and financial records
  • Coordinating multiple projects and delivering to deadlines
  • Proven target achievement
  • Event management experience
  • Building and developing relationships at multiple levels

Desirable:

  • Working with volunteers
  • Experience of working for an international organisation
