Mencap Liverpool is looking for an exceptional fundraising & communications manager.  We are a small charity with a big name, established in 1950.  We're affiliated to the national charity Mencap (Royal Mencap Society) but we are and always have been a separate charity run by and for local people.  This means we benefit from a well-known brand but also have a local appeal.

We work with adults who have mild-moderate learning disability and who have little or no family support.  This can leave our potential beneficiaries in a lonely and isolated situation where small problems can quickly become a crisis.  We need your help to improve our communications so that many more people know what we do and so it’s easier for the people who need us to get our help.

We run an outreach project to support people in crisis and we connect people to opportunities, activities and new friends through; our social groups and befriending project.  As their situation and confidence improves, through workshops and personal coaching we enable people to progress by taking personal responsibility for identifying and achieving their goals.  We need your fundraising skills to help ensure we can keep our activities and projects running.

We involve people in empowering others, by giving them confidence and skills to share their experiences through training opportunities, peer mentoring and volunteering.  We're looking for someone who'll work with our expert members as equals, utilising their experience and enthusiasm to engage with supporters.

We do not provide health & social care services under contract to local authorities, the vast majority of our income is voluntary with around two thirds coming from trusts & foundations and 25-30% currently from our established fundraising activities.  (This role will cover all aspects of fundraising except major trust funding)

We are currently going through a merger with South Sefton Mencap.  With so many exciting changes happening, we are looking for someone who wants to develop their core skills as well as eager to take on more strategic and leadership responsibility over time.
