Position: Grants Officer 
Location: Mortlake, South West London 
Job type: Full Time, Permanent 
Hours: 35 hours per week (some of out of hours work may be required) 
Salary: £26,000 to £28,000 per annum (depending on experience)

About the role: 

The Grants Officer will be responsible for supporting the Grants Manager in securing and managing income against a defined target from a variety of sources, developing enduring funder relationships. Potential funders include charitable trusts and foundations, livery companies, Big Lottery Fund and non-commissioned statutory funds. A key part of this role will be working with services, policy and finance teams cross the organisation to ensure project plans are developed to enable successful funding applications. 

The Fundraising and Communications team is responsible for appealing for individual missing people; creating sustainable long-term income and increasing awareness of the charity’s services. 

Responsibilities: 

- Research prospective supporters and build relationships to create a pipeline of key prospects aligned with the charity’s funding needs 
- Support the Manager in planning and delivering an annual work programme of applications and reports to ensure that income targets are met 
- Take ownership of our ‘small grants mailing’ programme to grow this income stream from trusts for sums of up to £5,000, monitoring income and stewarding funders 
- Working closely with the Manager, develop high quality and inspiring large bids and reports in partnership with colleagues across the charity that meet long-term plans to ensure that applications you make stand a strong chance of success 

About you: 

- Knowledge of the charity sector and different types of funding sources 
- Experience in a trust fundraising and / or statutory fundraising role 
- An understanding of trends in grant giving and emerging funding streams 
- Degree level education or equivalent 
- Excellent written skills in drafting compelling bids, presentations, reports, briefings 
- Ability to undertake prospect research and develop donor plans 
- Ability to interpret complex information and synthesise into simple, compelling messages 
- Ability to understand basic budgeting in relation to a project or service 
- A high level of competence in using relationship management databases (ideally Raiser’s Edge NXT) and Microsoft Office software notably Excel and Word
