Administrator – School Improvement (Contract)
London, SW8

About Us

The National Literacy Trust is a national charity dedicated to raising literacy levels in the UK. We run projects in the poorest communities, campaign to make literacy a priority for politicians and parents, and support schools. Our mission is to give young people the literacy skills they need to get a job and lead a successful life.

One person in six in the UK has poor literacy skills that impact on every area of their life. A child without good reading, writing and communication skills can’t succeed at school, and as an adult they could be locked out of the job market. Poverty doubles the likelihood of literacy failure by the age of five.

Literacy for Life develops pupils’ subject specific vocabulary and ability to communicate effectively in all subjects. Following a successful pilot, we have secured funding to increase the number of schools taking part in direct programme delivery and engage even more schools with training developed through the programme.

We’re now looking for an Administrator to join our new Literacy for Life team on a two year fixed-term contract.

The Benefits

- Salary of £22,500 per year
- Pension scheme
- Develop your career with an ambitious organisation
- 28 days’ holiday plus Bank Holidays and a Christmas closure

We are a charity with a mission. Strong literacy levels form the backbone of an enlightened society and we believe that literacy is a critical skill that everyone should hold.

This is an amazing opportunity to support the success of a programme that is improving support for literacy in secondary schools throughout the UK.

You will have the chance to increase your experience in the charity sector, get involved with a broad range of activities and work alongside a small, talented team.

The Role

As an Administrator, you’ll support the delivery of our Literacy for Life programme.

In this varied role, you’ll provide a high level of administrative support, as well as organising the logistics of training activities and promoting our programme to schools.

You’ll respond to enquiries, draft copy for web and social media, send invoices and support credit control activities.

About You

To join us as an Administrator, you’ll need:

- Administration and team support experience
- Experience of co-ordinating event logistics
- A track record of supporting work with external stakeholders
- The ability to use and manage databases and contact management systems with a high level of accuracy

Ideally, you’ll have experience of working in a school-facing role, but this isn’t essential. Experience of using social media would also be an advantage, as would experience of using an online Content Management System to create web pages.

We’d love to hear from you if you’ve worked as an Administrator, Programme Administrator, Admin Assistant, Office Administrator, Office Co-ordinator, PA, EA, Personal Assistant or Executive Assistant.

Other organisations may call this role Team Administrator, Programme Assistant, Programme Co-ordinator, Education Administrator or School Programme Administrator.

The closing date for this role is 10am on Friday 1 March 2019.

The National Literacy Trust is committed to being an equal opportunities employer and aims to ensure that no job applicant or employee receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, ethnicity or religion.
