Project Manager (Two Year FTC)
Hastings, East Sussex

Are you an experienced Project Manager with a background in education, local government or relationship building? Do you have a clear understanding of Hastings-based communities and the challenges they face? If so, read on.

About Us:

The National Literacy Trust is a national charity dedicated to raising literacy levels in the UK. We run projects in the poorest communities, campaign to make literacy a priority for politicians and parents, and support schools. Our mission is to give young people the literacy skills they need to get a job and lead a successful life.

One person in six in the UK has poor literacy skills that impact on every area of their life. A child without good reading, writing and communication skills can’t succeed at school, and as an adult they could be locked out of the job market. Poverty doubles the likelihood of literacy failure by the age of five.

Our Hub in Hastings has been set up to respond to the challenges of intergenerational low literacy and is in place for ten years. We are now recruiting a manager to lead our National Literacy Trust Hub in Hastings. This role is currently offered as a two-year contract but there is the potential to extend the role if additional funding is obtained.

Your Rewards:

- The chance to help ensure high levels of literacy are prevalent throughout the UK
- A salary of £36,000 to £38,000 per annum
- A generous annual leave allowance of 28 days (plus bank holidays and office closure between Christmas and new year)
- Pension contributions of 8% of your annual salary
- Flexibility on working hours

Travelling throughout the Hastings area, you’ll be making a huge difference to literacy levels within local communities. You will have the chance to pursue and drive initiatives and set-up and make a success of this Hub.

Literacy is vital to the development of our society and this is your opportunity to develop the skills in young people and adults that will enable them to succeed, make a difference in their own right and help create a world of educated, forward-thinking and enlightened people.

In 2016 - 2017, we supported literacy in over 100,000 children, nearly 4,000 schools and over 100 early years settings. But as we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we can also state that aside from the numbers, we can see the direct benefit of our work through school readiness in Middlesbrough and through the writing skills of teenage boys in Bradford. Last year, our social media impact increased and we reached 50,000 people with every tweet and generated nearly 10,000 likes for our Facebook posts.

2018 is an incredible time to join us and help us take our Hastings Hub from a standing start to making a meaningful impact on the lives of children in the area. So, if you want to make a difference, stand up and be counted and help children in this country to aim high and achieve their dreams, this is the role for you.

Your Role:

As our Project Manager, you will work with local partners and our national team to shape and deliver activity as part of a local strategy.

Your role will be part of our Community Programmes Team and you will be responsible for developing the strategic planning around literacy and embedding it within broader local priorities in the Hastings area.

About You:

To be considered as a Project Manager, you will need:

- Experience as a project manager with a background in education, local government or relationship building
- A strong team player mentality
- A passion for literacy
- The drive to make a difference

Please note, the closing date for applications is the 11th July 2018.

The National Literacy Trust is committed to being an equal opportunities employer and aims to ensure that no job applicant or employee receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, ethnicity or religion.
