Pancreatic Cancer Action

Pancreatic Cancer Action, (registered charity No. 1137689) was founded in Surrey in 2010 by a rare survivor of the disease.  A small team headed by our Chief Executive runs the charity and overall board of trustees provides direction for the organisation.

Pancreatic cancer only has a five per cent survival rate and this figure has barely changed for 40 years.  Despite it being the fifth biggest cancer killer in the UK, pancreatic cancer receives only one per cent of overall research funding. With a strong focus on early diagnosis, it is Pancreatic Cancer Action’s aim is to improve survival rates through awareness, medical education, improved patient information and by funding research specifically into the early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Simply, we want more people diagnosed in time for surgery, currently the only potential for a cure.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to ensure that Pancreatic Cancer Action (PCA) has the financial resources to deliver on its vision; working towards the day when most people will survive pancreatic cancer.  The Fundraising Manager (FM) will play an instrumental role ensuring that our fundraising strategies and practices support our ambitions and goals.

The FM will do this by working with colleagues across the organisation to ensure that challenging fundraising targets are met, that our contractual obligations with donors are adhered to with strong stewardship of these strategic relations, and that new donors are brought on board.  The role coordinates all types of fundraising including statutory, philanthropy, private sector, trusts, and mass audience.

The FM will work directly alongside colleagues, themselves engaging with donors, to develop compelling proposals, and provide strategic support and direction for organisational and programme fundraising.  The FM also works throughout the organisation to mobilise and align communications, media and advocacy activity to engage supporters.

This post has line management responsibilities, presently for two staff members (although the team will grow over time).  The post holder is expected to manage workflow, conduct appraisals, and to facilitate the training and up-skilling of staff.  The post-holder is also expected to offer support to the executive team.  A well-natured, enthusiastic and personable demeanour is needed, as is the ability to assimilate a heavy workload and to work effectively under pressure.

The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
