Imagine not being able to move, sleep, or smile. Feeling anxious or depressed and struggling to think or remember. Your body not feeling like your own.  This is what Parkinson's can feel like.

Every hour, two people in the UK are told they have Parkinson's - a brain condition that turns lives upside down, leaving a future full of uncertainty.

Parkinson’s UK is an ambitious and dynamic charity, passionate about improving the lives of everyone affected by Parkinson’s and finding better treatments and a cure. Due to natural retirement of existing trustees and as part of our succession strategy, we are seeking four outstanding individuals to join our Board of Trustees.

This is an exciting time for the charity as we begin the process of developing our strategy for 2020 onwards. We are moving fast now to deliver quality services to everyone affected by Parkinson’s, by working with professionals across the UK and by developing and using cutting-edge technologies. And we are forming exciting international partnerships to deliver better treatments -  maybe even a cure -  for Parkinson’s within years, not decades.  You would be part of our Board that is responsible for steering and governing the charity to the make this possible.

We currently have an eclectic mix of Trustees with a wide range of backgrounds and experience and through this diversity we guide and oversee the charity’s work.  We are keen to have even broader representation on the Board to bring greater experience in reaching out to and serving diverse communities and thereby ensure we support everyone affected by Parkinson’s .

The leadership from the Board and its committees is crucial to the charity achieving its ambitious goals; as well as responding to the governance challenges of fund-raising, public good accountability, financial probity and the successful operation of our network of over 400 local groups throughout the UK.

The opportunity we offer to successful Trustee candidates is to become part of a charity that  is addressing the issues facing those affected by Parkinson’s through promoting the development of advanced therapies and treatments, digitisation, improving care and influencing the clinicians, therapists and nurses within the Parkinson’s community.

The board will also be initiating a selection process for the role of Chair of Board in April 2019, as the incumbent Chair comes to the end of his tenure in October 2019. All existing Trustees on the Board at that time will be eligible to put themselves forward for this selection process.

The Board will also be operating a selection process for the role of Finance Trustee in October 2018. This is an important role on our Board and the appointed individual will also be a member of our Investment Committee and Audit and Risk Committee.

Help us bring forward the day when no one fears Parkinson’s.
