Peterborough Cathedral Trust is the charitable arm of Peterborough Cathedral, and is responsible for raising funds to support the Cathedral’s fabric conservation, its outstanding Music Department and Choir (founded 1541) and its programme of outreach events. The latter involve not only practising Christians but also a wide range of other faiths and secular groups in the City of Peterborough and throughout Peterborough Diocese.

The Trust is nearing the end of a successful 6-year long £11 million capital fundraising campaign in support of projects marking the 900th Anniversary of the Cathedral. The finale event of the campaign takes place in October, and will honour the Commonwealth’s contribution to victory in 1918 as well as celebrating the building of the Cathedral in 1118.

The Trust has not previously employed a full-time Head of its Fundraising and Development department. It is now seeking an experienced fundraising professional to fill this new and challenging role.

Head of Fundraising and Development

Location: Peterborough, with travel expected across the counties of Northamptonshire and Rutland

Salary: £38,000 - £42,000 pa depending on skills and experience

Hours: full time

As Head of Fundraising and Development, you will lead Peterborough Cathedral Trust’s small office and work closely with the Chairman and Board of Trustees, and also with the Dean of the Cathedral and the Cathedral Chapter.

Your job will be:

· To create an effective fundraising strategy for the Trust to achieve the goals set by the Chairman of the Trust and the Dean of the Cathedral

· To raise funds from a variety of sources, working closely with Trustees and Members of Chapter and meeting targets set by the Trust Chairman

· To plan and promote fundraising events on behalf of the Trust, and to work with the Cathedral’s Management Team to deliver them effectively

· To maintain accurate fundraising records in the Trust’s office, ensuring that robust policies relating to the Trust’s governance and GDPR  are in place and implemented

· To nurture existing trust, corporate and individual donors; and to recruit new donors across the fundraising spectrum.

You will be an experienced fundraiser with an appropriate qualification from the Institute of Fundraising, CFRE International or other recognised professional fundraising body.

You will have a clear understanding of how to work effectively with Trustees, clergy and staff of the Trust, the Cathedral and the wider Diocese, developing strong philanthropic relationships and achieving growth in income.

Ideally you will have worked with charities of different sizes, and you will certainly know how to create, develop and steward individual, trust and corporate donors in line with the Trust’s and the Cathedral’s culture and Christian values.

Demonstrating excellent oral and written communication skills, you will have a successful track record of raising substantial sums from trust and foundations, the National Lottery, corporate donors and individual philanthropists.
