Do you love working with data? Have you used SQL in a marketing or fundraising environment?  Do you have an appreciation for the power of actionable data, together with great technical skills and keen attention to detail? If so this could be the job for you.The successful candidate will:

• Work within the Insight team processing supporter selections for our fundraising and communications activities.
• Run and develop reports so that we have a good understanding of how well these activities are doing and also produce in-depth analysis to identify ways to maximise the impact of the campaigns.
• Be one of a small number of data experts within the team: helping others to make best use of the supporter database and the wealth of information that it contains.
• Have a good understanding of SQL, MS Excel and hopefully SPSS.
• Have experience of working in an analytical role, together with a real thirst and aptitude for learning new technical skills.

JOB FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES 

Data Selections

  • Receive, interpret and challenge (where appropriate) Data Selection Briefs (DSB).

  • Plan, implement and deliver supporter data selections to agreed DSB specifications and timetables.

  • Providing advice to Marketing & Communications colleagues to ensure that contacts with our supporters are appropriate and adhere to contact guidelines.

  • Identifying potential communications clashes or issues, pro-actively alerting relevant staff members

  • Maintaining the selections calendar so that colleagues are aware of recent and planned supporter contacts.

  • Training new staff on the mechanics of the data selection process, including how and when to complete a DSB.

  • Updating the DSB template as required to reflect changes in data requirements

Reporting

  • Run campaign, KPI and monthly income reports, check the reportsfor accuracy or potential problems and ensure that they are uploaded to SharePoint or distributed by email to agreed timetables.

  • Set up or amend reports for new campaigns, ensuring that they meet the needs of colleagues.

  • Pro-actively identify areas for improvement and change within the existing reporting portfolio.

  • Providing reports and information to auditors as requested.

  • Keeping up to date with latest reporting technologies and proposing changes and enhancements to such software where appropriate.

Insight and Analysis

  • Conduct effective and actionable supporter analysis which add to, and feed from, the information obtained from regular reports.

Maintaining Data Warehouse

  • Monitoring the scheduled updates of the data warehouse to check that they have run as planned without errors.

  • Under the supervision and direction of the Senior Data analyst undertake the timely investigation and correction of any issues found, thus ensuring the sound foundation of all campaign selection, reporting and analysis work.

  • Using SQL programming language skills and knowledge of good data design to amend / build SQL Views as required to meet the reporting and selection needs of the Marketing & Communications teams

  • Proactively identify areas of improvement for using the data warehouse and, after agreement from the Senior Data Analyst, implementing associated changes in a planned and methodical manner (thereby respecting the complexity ofthe data warehouse together with the associated operational and indirect financial risks if any problems arise)

Importing Data

  • Run pre-defined data imports to update the supporter database with campaign results and new supporter information

  • Update data import specifications and tools to reflect changes in data requirements

Data Quality

  • Working with the Senior Data Quality Assurance Officer to running data quality audits

General

  • Actively participate in all Unit and department meetings

  • Other reasonable tasks as required.

PERSON PROFILE

To be successful in the role, the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Educated to Degree level, ideally including a mathematics / statistics element
  • Some experience of working with data within a marketing environment
  • Advanced use of MS Excel
  • Working knowledge of SQL
  • Excellent numeric and analytic skills.

  • Working knowledge of GDPR and data protection and fundraising regulations and compliance.

Skills and Experience

  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex data to produce actionable insight in a user-friendly, understandable format.
  • Experience of interrogating databases using SQL or SPSS .
  • Team member who can easily work as part of a cross functioning team to deliver shared goals and improved results.
