About Prisoners of Conscience (PoC)

PoC has embarked on an exciting strategic path to increase the impact achieved for human rights defenders. Our first ever Fundraising Manager will play a key role in leading on our fundraising plans to substantially increase income to meet these objectives.

Our mission is to protect and advance human rights across the world by providing financial and practical assistance to positively transform the lives of beneficiaries who have exercised a non-violent act of conscience for their and others’ human rights.

We provide rapid financial assistance to ensure immediate hardship relief and/or resettlement at the time of greatest need by making grants for family reunion, rehabilitation, academic studies and professional re-qualification and, through our Employability panel, improve the opportunities for beneficiaries to secure meaningful, skills-related employment.

Since our inception in 1962 we have provided support to more than ten thousand prisoners of conscience and their dependants and distributed more than £4 million.

About the role

This is an important new role which provides the opportunity for considerable career development as PoC aims to expand to put in place a comprehensive fundraising team. Our SWOT analysis indicates that the greatest current opportunities to grow income lie with individual donors, including major individual donors, and this will be the focus of the role.

The Fundraising Manager will utilise an array of fundraising practices to improve donor stewardship, broaden our current donor base and attract new supporters and donors, including:

• developing a coherent, organized fundraising strategy (setting targets, resources needed, suggested methods and timeline for implementation)
• effective supporter segmentation
• monitoring and evaluation of campaigns’ progress
• strategies to move small to medium and medium to large individual donors
• building long-term relations with donors
• digital and social media
• refreshed campaigns in terms of content, style and media
• commencing community fundraising
• contributing to the broader fundraising strategies in an encouraging and open work environment, including working with the director and our fundraising sub-committee which includes trustees.

Person specification

A desire to make a lasting difference for human rights defenders across the world

Experienced individual/public fundraiser with proven track record

Team player within an ambitious and collaborative organisation

Excellent and empathetic communicator

Resourceful and self-motivating

Good planning, monitoring and reporting skills

Proficiency in CRM databases, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook

Broader fundraising experience would be an advantage
