The mission of Prostate Cancer Research Centre (PCRC) is to increase survival rates, reduce morbidity, and improve the quality of life of men with prostate cancer. Their vision is a future without prostate cancer. Currently, prostate cancer is the most common male cancer in the UK - 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed in their lifetime.

PCRC is the only charity in the UK that is solely dedicated to funding pioneering research into prostate cancer. They are a team of scientists and fund-raisers. What they fund is novel, early stage research into treatments for prostate cancer and they do this because research is the only way that new effective treatments will ever be discovered.

In the last year, PCRC income has grown by 38% and the amount of science they fund will grow by 75% in 2019. PCRC intend to keep up this rate of progress as they look to reduce mortality and increase quality of life for people affected by prostate cancer.

Role specification

Now is an especially exciting time to be part of PCRC's Board and make a real impact as they are rapidly expanding their research and income base. They are looking for up to three exceptional individuals with appropriate backgrounds and interest in their work to join their Board and offer their expertise, wisdom and objectivity.

The Board meets four times each year in London to discuss matters of strategy, governance, financial planning, fundraising and most importantly the scientific research that PCRC funds.

The term for each trustee is 3 years and trustees can serve up to 3 consecutive terms.

Person specification
